We recently established Capital Group’s Sustainability and Social Responsibility team to ensure CG takes a strategic, systematic, and consistent approach to identify, understand, engage, drive impact and communicate transparently on the social and environmental topics most important to our stakeholders on a global basis. CG’s agenda will evolve over time in response to changing stakeholder needs and expectations. Initial areas of focus will include advancing economic inclusion by expanding representation and access in support of our diversity, equity and inclusion goals and advancing the transition to a net zero economy. Managing our societal impact and creating value for a diverse set of stakeholders is critical to building and maintaining trust in CG. It is the responsibility of CG’s Sustainability and Social Responsibility team to set strategy and drive execution against our priorities in partnership with others across CG.
ROLE SUMMARY
Within the S&SR team, the Senior Manager will be responsible for managing our initiatives and partnerships related to Economic Inclusion & Social Impact, a key role focusing on helping lead CG’s commitment to advance economic inclusion in the external communities in which we operate. While economic inclusion has many facets, this role will likely focus on efforts to mitigate wealth and economic inequality, expanding access to financial services and financial safety nets, and social and economic mobility. This role will report to the Director of Sustainability & Social Responsibility and work closely with leaders across the firm to evaluate opportunities, assess and prioritize areas of focus, build support across the organization and lead implementation of key priorities globally.
RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE
Shaping and driving CG’s Sustainability & Social Responsibility agenda, with an emphasis on driving transformational, enduring impact in society by defining and advancing economic inclusion in the communities in which we operate globally:
• Responsible for developing and implementing CG’s strategy for advancing economic inclusion. This work will partner closely with CG’s DE&I team to advance the ‘impacting our communities’ pillar of CG’s DE&I goals, which includes leading efforts to expand representation in the industry and access to wealth generating investment products.
• Activities involve setting long-term vision, annual priorities, goals & metrics.
• Coordinate and partner with others internally to successfully steward a portfolio of sustainability & social responsibility initiatives for priority topics. This role will specifically focus on advancing economic inclusion – defining future initiatives, executing representation and access program, financial literacy, and others. Key partners include the SVP of DE&I, Global Head of ESG, LOB leaders and Capital’s Business Resource Communities.
• Cultivate relationships and partnerships with leading organizations and institutions championing progress on economic inclusion, as well as corporate social responsibility and sustainability practitioners including clients, NGOs and academics. Strategy Development & Execution
• Work with CG leadership to define priorities • Identify and execute partnerships (e.g., volunteering, philanthropy, industry coalitions) in collaboration with relevant CG teams to advance CG’s impact in this area
• Assess and recommend key initiatives and public commitments related to economic inclusion
• Provide tools and analysis to support our business leaders to advance our social responsibility priorities and track progress via priorities metrics
• Track and evaluate emerging trends and issues, relevance to CG’s Sustainability & Social Responsibility strategy and implications External Reporting and Related Disclosures
• Establish a framework to measure and report on the progress and impact of CG’s economic inclusion and other social impact initiatives, including mapping impact to UN SDGs, where relevant.
• Contribute to CG’s ESG reporting including CG’s Global Citizenship and Sustainability Report and UN SDG reporting. Engagement with internal and external stakeholders
• Build relationships and partnerships with leading corporate social responsibility and sustainability practitioners including other asset managers, industry organizations, clients, nongovernmental organizations and academics to advance key priorities
• Contribute to the Sustainability & Social Responsibility team's work on internal and external communications, strategy, research, analysis and data collection as needed.
• Represent CG’s sustainability and social responsibility priorities and approach in internal and external meetings and presentations with clients and other parties.
• Champion best practice Associate and functional programs and initiatives to embed social responsibility in the CG culture; engage and inspire Associates.
• Cultivate fluency and sponsorship from the CG Sustainability & Social Responsibility Oversight Group, COG, CGMC, Board and other leaders.
SKILLS/QUALIFICATIONS
• Substantial relevant professional experience in the fields of economic inclusion, philanthropy, community organizing, community relations, and/or DE&I
• Direct experience working on economic inclusion and/or community relations at non-profit organization(s), corporation(s), academic institution(s), and/or public policy bodies.
• Demonstrated knowledge and experience related to economic inclusion, social justice and/or DE&I
• Strong awareness of and relationships with organizations working on economic inclusion issues.
• Track record of advancing measurable social impact and ability to effectively communicate and mobilize internal and external stakeholders.
• Direct experience working within communities in which CG operates preferred (i.e., Los Angeles, London, and New York).
• Academic research or studies on relevant topic areas a plus.
