Summary of Position
The Facilities Services Department at Keene State College is seeking an Environmental Health and Safety Coordinator to provide technical and advisory services in assigned campus wide health and safety program area(s), such as biological health and safety, chemical health and safety, occupational health and safety, and radiation safety.

Other minimum qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Safety, Environmental Sciences, or related STEM field and two years experience in safety or environmental compliance roles in higher education.
  • Ability to obtain New Hampshire Hazardous Waste Coordinator Certification within 1 year of hire.
  • Effective communications skills to interact and communicate environmental health and safety procedures to faculty, staff, and students.
  • Demonstrated computer skills.
  • Ability to respond promptly in-person to all campus locations requiring environmental health and safety services.
  • Knowledge of applicable laws, regulations, nationally recognized standards and guidelines related to specialized environmental health and safety functions.
  • Knowledge of environmental health and safety regulations, codes, and guidelines at the local, state and federal levels.
  • Ability to wear and use appropriate protective equipment as necessary.
  • Sufficient strength and physical dexterity to perform duties and responsibilities of program.
Additional Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in Environmental Health and Safety or related discipline.
  • HAZWOPER awareness course completion preferred, but not required; expected to be completed within 1 year of hire.

Duties / Responsibilities

Duty/Responsibility
EHS Program Management:
-Review and update EHS policies as necessary.
-Provide EHS training to campus as required and as requested.
-Work with regulators and consultants to assure campus facility compliance with environmental, health and safety regulations, including the air pollution permit, petroleum storage tank managment, wastewater discharge requirements and hazardous materials emergency planning.
-Maintain records related to EHS regulatory programs.
Duty/Responsibility
-Track developments in related regulatory and professional fields:
-Participate in state and national professional organizations which identify emerging health and safety issues that are likely to impact the KSC campus.
-Identify and implement best practices to address those issues appropriate to the KSC environment
Duty/Responsibility
Provide oversight of campus academic and facility operations for EHS concerns:
- Supervise student and professional staff in conducting regular inspections of safety equipment, including fire extinguishers.
- Consult with campus departments on EHS questions that arise as their activities or regulations that impact those activities change
Duty/Responsibility
-Coordinate EHS program activities with other appropriate campus departments:
-Work with Human Resources to support the onboarding process.
-Provide leadership for the Campus Health and Safety Committee.
-Work with facility managers to identify and address regulatory impacts on campus
-Provide support for response to hazmat emergencies on campus.
