Job Summary:
We are looking for a Vice President to join our Environmental Claims Team. The Vice President will handle Environmental claims of varying degrees of complexity throughout the life cycle of the claim, including conducting investigations, recommending adequate reserves, monitoring, documenting, working with coverage and defense counsel and settling/closing claims in an expeditious and economical manner within prescribed authority limits. This position is a managerial role, and the ideal candidate will have experience supervising staff.
Job Responsibilities:
- Lead the Environmental Claims Team and be a contributing member of the Senior Claims Leadership Staff for Ascot US.
- Handle and adjust complex Environmental claims across broad ranges of Environmental coverages, while also providing guidance and supervision to more junior staff.
- In addition to adjusting Environmental claims, the position will require significant interaction and collaboration with the Environmental Underwriting Team, including assisting with drafting policy language, marketing and attending broker/client meetings.
- Analyze and investigate losses to determine Ascot’s coverage disposition.
- Identify and evaluate coverage issues and prepare comprehensive coverage position letters.
- Provide oversight of Defense Counsel and manage litigation, including litigation strategy and litigation budget, according to Ascot’s Litigation Management Guidelines.
- Provide oversight of Coverage Counsel, including the supervision of coverage litigation, according to the Company’s Coverage Guidelines.
- Evaluate and set reserves at appropriate level for claims within authority level and make recommendations to upper management for claims outside of designated authority level.
- Proactively negotiate settlement of claims within designated authority level and work with upper management to negotiate and settle claims above designated authority level.
- Present claims strategy for complex matters to senior management.
- Maintain a current and accurate claim file and diary system.
- Maintain insurance adjuster licenses, as required.
- Attend trials and mediations as necessary.
- Participate in industry conferences and events.
- Some travel is required.
Minimum Requirements:
- Bachelor’s and/or advanced degree.
- 10+ years Environmental claims experience, or in a related field.
- Functional knowledge of claims handling concepts and practices.
- Functional knowledge of Environmental and Insurance Regulations in various jurisdictions.
- Demonstrated ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to effectively prioritize projects and assignments for multiple clients.
- Experience in management of staff.
- Strong verbal and written communications skills.
- Strong negotiation skills.
- Self-starter, team-oriented (but capable of working independently) and collaborative, with the initiative and desire to contribute to multiple projects, some of which may fall outside the scope of a similar role at a larger company.

Compensation
Actual base pay could vary and may be above or below the listed range based on factors including but not limited to experience, subject matter expertise, and skills. The base pay is just one component of Ascot’s total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include an annual cash bonus, long-term incentives, and other forms of discretionary compensation awarded by the Company. The annualized base pay range for this role is: $175,000 to $185,000.
