Filamat Composites Inc. is part of Zurn Industries Limited, a large organization with worldwide expertise in storm water treatment and wastewater pre-treatment solutions. Job Description
Reporting to the Plant & Engineering Manager, the Manager-QMS will be responsible for all aspects of the quality function and driving the internal, supplier and customer quality processes while leading continuous improvement activities throughout the business. They will be responsible for leading the ISO 9001 activities and audit. They will also be responsible for directing and coordinating activities concerned with design, construction, modification, and maintenance of equipment and buildings in an industrial manufacturing facility. Responsible for assigning work activities, supervising and training a Millwright and a QC Technician.
Key Accountabilities
Quality
- Responsible for development, implementation, maintenance and management of the quality control system to ensure that requirements for processing components, and other materials into finished goods and products conform to quality standards.
- Establishes and maintains quality assurance standards, procedures, control and regulatory compliance and drives quality standards throughout the organization.
- Works directly with manufacturing to schedule and control inspection activities and to enforce requirements as specified by raw materials, ingredients, products and package specifications, and regulatory agencies.
- Reviews contract documentation for completeness and accuracy.
- Works with research and development during new product start-ups and establishes checkpoints for testing new products and processes. Initiates corrective action for procedural product or process deficiencies.
- Develops and implements a program of supplier relations.
- Key quality representative for conducting internal, supplier and customer audits
- Analyzes current processes, develops metrics and scorecards and institutes data-driven process improvements
- Identifies opportunities to reduce waste and increase efficiency across the business
- Manage and drive the action plans for the QC boards.
- Serves as the ISO 9001 management representative
- Required to conform to safety regulations and procedures to maintain a safe working environment at all times.
- Provides expertise to ensure quality standards are recognized, understood and maintained across the company.
Facilities/Maintenance
- Prepares capital requests and manages capital projects
- Provides technical input, technical support, and engineering design and evaluation on facility and improvement projects. Develops plans and specifications, writes requests for quotations, evaluates bids, and oversees implementation.
- Trouble-shoots equipment problems
- Improves manufacturing methods with a focus on automation and improving equipment reliability
- Supervises Millwright and QC Technician employee; providing training, coaching, leadership and oversight to meet daily job objectives.
- Keeps equipment operational by coordinating maintenance and repair services; following manufacturer's instructions and established procedures; requesting special service.
Qualifications/Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering – mechanical, material sciences, manufacturing or industrial preferred
- Licensed as a Professional Engineer an asset
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience in a manufacturing environment
- Experience in a Unionized environment is an asset
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience implementing and/or improving quality systems
- Experience leading an ISO 9001 Quality Management System
- Ability to use and work effectively with ERP / MRP systems
- Knowledge and experience using Six Sigma and/or lean manufacturing concepts (asset)
- Leadership, presentation, project management, coaching, influencing and verbal/written communication skills required.
- Ability to work effectively at all levels of the organization
