Primary Function:
Position is responsible for all environmental functions at Elm Plating Company. Implements and coordinates all environmental policies and procedures. Supervises activities of the Wastewater Treatment Department and activities pertaining to all environmental issues at Elm Plating Company (EPC).
Specific Duties and Responsibilities:
- Designated ISO 14001:2015 Management Representative oversees and directs all aspects of EPC’s environmental management system (EMS) programs, including internal and external audits.
- Participates in annual review of EPC’s EMS business system records for updates and improvement.
- Maintains compliance with federal, state and local laws including initial applications, renewals and training for applicable environmental permits.
- Attends outside conferences and training events to remain current with multiple regulatory agency requirements and potential changes.
- Develops and measures success for utility use improvements, non-hazardous waste management, RCRA hazardous waste management, renewable energy, recycling, pollution reduction and pollution prevention.
- Develops strategies to meet targets and to encourage best practices.
- Reviews waste disposal and contracts hazardous disposal facilities, if needed.
- Maintains and updates emergency response plan, Spill Prevention Control and Countermeasure (SPCC) Plans and response teams, storm water permits and Storm Water Pollution Prevention Plans (SWPPPs), air quality permits and regenerative thermal oxidizer treatment effectiveness of air emissions, wastewater treatment compliance reporting to the City of Jackson, community right-to-know reporting (EPCRA), contracts or coordinates training, when needed.
- Responds to and evaluates environmental emergencies.
- Maintains and protects all records relating to EPC environmental permits.
- Provides and maintains training for wastewater certified technicians.
- Conducts monthly review of waste stream reports and recycling programs for continuous improvement and identifies opportunities for cost reduction.
- Monitors and reports weekly on wastewater treatment operations.
- Provides training to personnel related to wastes and specific company environmental programs.
- Required to comply with all Safety and Environmental policies and procedures.
- Maintains and provides regular reports on Environmental budget status.
- May be required to perform other duties at the direction of the VP of Operations.
Job Qualifications:
- Must have Bachelor’s degree in Environmental field, or equivalent experience (at least 8 years) and at least 5 years of experience in a leadership/managerial role.
- Proven leadership and teamwork skills with demonstrated abilities to both work collaboratively and to influence those with whom no direct reporting relationship exists.
- Excellent typing skills and computer software knowledge required.
- Must have ability to adapt to changes in the work environment; manage competing demands; change approach or method to best fit the situation; ability to deal with frequent change, delays, or unexpected events.
- Must have ability to work without constant supervision and to make appropriate decisions.
- Must be able to effectively communicate with all levels of management, plant employees, and outside vendors both verbally and in written form.
- Must be able to process work with accuracy and perform multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Must maintain prompt and regular attendance.
- Must be able to effectively communicate with all levels of employees; maintain confidentiality; possess excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Job requires mobility throughout all EPC plants and may require extended periods of sitting.
