What you’ll do
We are seeking a dedicated and environmentally-conscious Specialist, Purchasing Environmental and Sustainability to join our organization. This vital role will be responsible for developing, implementing, and managing sustainability initiatives within our supply chain operations. The ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of sustainability principles, supply chain processes, and environmental regulations, and will be instrumental in driving our commitment to a more sustainable and responsible supply chain.
Key Responsibilities:
Sustainability Strategy:
- Develop and execute a comprehensive sustainability strategy for our supply chain operations in alignment with our organization's sustainability goals.
- Identify and prioritize sustainability initiatives, setting clear objectives and key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure progress.
Supply Chain Assessment:
- Conduct thorough assessments of our supply chain to identify areas of improvement and opportunities for sustainability enhancements.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to analyze environmental impact, carbon emissions, and resource usage across the supply chain.
Supplier Engagement:
- Build and maintain strong relationships with suppliers, fostering collaboration and encouraging sustainable practices.
- Assess supplier sustainability performance, provide feedback, and work with them to improve their sustainability efforts.
Sustainable Sourcing:
- Responsible to ensure that all suppliers being nominated or contracted have an acceptable “S-Rating” or Sustainability rating, which is a mandatory requirement within Scout Motors and all Volkswagen Group companies.
- Lead supplier workshops and training sessions to educate on the sustainability rating process and requirements of doing business with Scout Motors
- Work closely with procurement teams to identify and source sustainable materials, products, and suppliers.
- Evaluate the environmental and social impact of sourcing decisions and recommend sustainable alternatives.
Compliance and Reporting:
- Stay up-to-date with environmental regulations and industry standards related to sustainability in the supply chain.
- Prepare and submit sustainability reports to track progress, compliance, and achievements in sustainability initiatives.
Continuous Improvement:
- Implement continuous improvement processes and best practices to reduce waste, energy consumption, and carbon footprint within the supply chain.
- Collaborate with internal teams to drive sustainability innovations and efficiency improvements.
Stakeholder Communication:
- Communicate sustainability achievements, goals, and progress to internal and external stakeholders, including customers, investors, and the public.

Location & Travel Expectations: The responsibilities of this role require attendance at in-person meetings and events regularly. The role will be based out of a Scout Motors location in the vicinity of Columbia, South Carolina. Applicants should expect that the role may require the ability to convene with Scout colleagues in person and be able to travel to participate in events on behalf of the company from time to time.

- Bachelor's degree in Sustainability, Environmental Science, Supply Chain Management, or a related field (Master's degree preferred).
- Proven experience (3-5 years) in sustainability, supply chain management, or related roles.
- Strong understanding of sustainability principles, environmental regulations, and supply chain processes.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and project management skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams and external partners.
- Exceptional communication and presentation skills.
- Proficiency in sustainability reporting and data analysis tools.

Pay Transparency
This is a full-time, exempt position, eligible to receive a base salary and to participate in an annual performance bonus program. The salary range listed represents the maximum and minimum starting base pay for this position as of the time of posting. Final salary offered will be determined based on factors including but not limited to the candidate's skills and experience. The annual performance bonus program is preset and not candidate dependent.
Initial base salary range = $85,000 - $100,000
