The Opportunity
We are seeking an Associate or Senior Associate to join the Planning and Environment practice group in our Brisbane office. The team is one of the largest specialist practices in Queensland and is continuing to grow.
The role is diverse and includes practice in planning, environment, local government, infrastructure and compulsory acquisition law. Due to our large team and extensive client base we are able to tailor the role to suit your skills, passions and experience.
The highest quality work is available with a diverse client base including developers and all levels of government.
The successful candidate will have direct access to and mentoring by the practice group Principals and also enjoy appropriate autonomy. There is a positive and certain path for career progression. You will also have a fantastic working environment in a collegiate and welcoming team.
Key Responsibilities
Core duties and responsibilities of the role will include:
- Take the lead, with support from team members, in planning and environment litigation.
- Engage with and coordinate expert witnesses and barristers.
- Appear in court for reviews and applications.
- Arrange and participate in alternative dispute resolution conferences.
- Provide excellent and consistent client service.
- Provide strategic advice for dispute resolution and approval pathways.
- A willingness to expand your planning and environment law experience, contribute positively to client and team outcomes.
- Collaborate with other team members to deliver exceptional client service.
Requirements
This is a varied and flexible role. The right candidate will have significant opportunity to grow, expand their skills and build their profile and practice with the benefit of a supportive team. Our ideal candidate will have demonstrated ability in a majority of the below requirements:
- 3 or more years post admission experience;
- experience in planning and environment law or regulatory work;
- excellent written, oral and interpersonal communication skills;
- a high level of attention to detail;
- provide positive client interactions;
- manage and deliver excellent work on time;
- strong working relationships with others;
- a great team player;
- experience with court hearings, settlement conferences and client meetings;
- a desire to learn from senior team members and add depth to the team;
- an excellent work ethic and demonstrated commitment to client service;
- strong time management and organisational skills;
- willingness to grow your own network and establish strong relationships with peers.
