ISS STOXX is actively looking for a Sustainability Engagement Coordinator to join the Mumbai Team (Goregaon East) which supports institutional investors with ISS ESG’s Collaborative Engagement services.
Overview:
ISS provides a variety of stewardship and engagement solutions to support institutional investors with their active ownership strategies. For this position, we are seeking to strengthen the team that delivers ISS ESG’s Collaborative Engagement services, which include Norm-Based Engagement (covering controversies with adverse environmental or social impact) and Thematic Engagement (covering Biodiversity, Water, Net Zero and Gender Equality). Through the service, ISS ESG facilitates engagement with companies on behalf of participating investors who seek to promote positive change such as enhanced disclosure, a push for improved sustainability performance or mitigation of ESG risks – thus allowing them to fulfil their commitment to active ownership under the UN-backed Principles for Responsible Investment, as well as requirements set out in Stewardship Codes and various regulatory frameworks.
The Sustainability Engagement Coordinator role is a central function within the team, coordinating engagement activities with companies and supporting the analysis of company responses as well as the reporting to participating investors. The role would suit a candidate who is confident in taking initiative and working both independently and collaboratively with a global team, and provides significant opportunity to grow and develop within the area of ESG and active ownership. The ideal candidate will have prior experience within the fields of Responsible Investment, Corporate Social Responsibility or sustainability. They will also have strong organizational skills and will be able to review and prioritize effectively to deadlines. The successful candidate will also have professional communication and analytical skills.
Responsibilities:
Coordinate company engagements, and ensure targets are met by established deadlines.
Assist with engagement letter drafting and distribution, as well as reminders and escalations.
Respond to communications relating to engagement and coordinate with internal teams to ensure that every communication is accurately addressed in a timely manner.
Organize engagement meetings involving issuers and clients.
Contribute to research on issuers and analysis of company responses.
Process information into the Collaborative Engagement databases.
Contribute to the drafting of quarterly and annual engagement reports and presentations to clients and prospects.
Assist in quality assurance of service deliveries.
Take responsibility for specific projects within the team.
Contribute to monitor industry and market developments and initiatives to review alignment of solutions against market expectations.
Qualifications:
3-5 years of experience in project management.
Excellent communication skills: Excellent command of English as a working language in a global setting, collaborating with colleagues in other countries as well as communicating professionally with clients, companies and external stakeholders.
Excellent project management skills.
Prior experience within the fields of Responsible Investment, Corporate Social Responsibility or sustainability is a strong advantage.
Strong academic qualifications (Masters in relevant field, such as international relations / law / politics / economics / communications desirable but not required).
Excellent user of Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
Excellent language skills, both written and oral (required fluency in English; fluency in Japanese or Mandarin would be an advantage).
Excellent attention to detail.
Ability to work towards deadlines.
Methodical and thorough approach to work.
Well-organized, good at juggling tasks and prioritizing.
Strong writing and analytical skills.
Strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to work both independently and as a member of a team to coordinate the efforts of other professionals within a global and diverse team.
Self-motivated, with a desire to show initiative.
Strong interest in corporate sustainability.
