Opportunity Description:
The company seeks a Senior Director of Sustainability to be accountable for RBI’s global sustainability framework. The Senior Director of Sustainability will lead RBI’s corporate team and be responsible for the ongoing development and implementation of the company’s sustainability strategies, as well as leading corporate ESG reporting and external stakeholder engagement on sustainability topics. The role will work closely with the leaders of our five business segments who are accountable for executing the company’s various commitments in each of their brands and business areas. This role reports to the Chief Corporate Officer at RBI. The position can be based in either Toronto or Miami.
Responsibilities:
Governance & Leadership:
- Lead diverse team of sustainability experts to evolve company strategy, execute strategic projects, and report progress internally and externally
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders to drive implementation and execution of RBI’s sustainability strategy
- Regularly update RBI’s Leadership Team and Board members on strategy, progress, risks, and opportunities
- Engage with external stakeholders including investors, NGOs, and regulators to build understanding and support for RBI’s sustainability efforts
Strategic Thinking:
- Lead management of RBI sustainability strategy, goal- and policy-setting process for climate action, deforestation, human rights and animal health and welfare, in addition to a broader set of issues articulated in our Restaurant Brands for Good report that is available on our website
- Benchmark, synthesize, and communicate external and internal trends and insights; support identification of emerging sustainability issues, and identify opportunities for collaboration and leadership.
Project Management:
- Manage and execute elements of RBI’s sustainability plans on strategic topics, led by our extensive work in carbon reduction and climate action
- Lead and oversee execution of goals by cross-functional teams including regional and global brand teams,
- Support and/or lead cross-functional Leadership Team level engagement, including regular working sessions with brands and regions, the Chief Corporate Officer, and regular updates to our Audit Committee and Board of Directors
Communication & Reporting:
- Oversee RBI reporting on sustainability, including responsibility for regulatory disclosures and third-party indices (e.g. CDP)
- Work with RBI”s communications and investor relations teams to manage stakeholder engagement (NGO’s, media) requests as needed
Qualifications & Skills:
- Masters degree in business, operations, sustainability or a related field
- 10+ years experience in corporate sustainability or related function
- Prior experience in Quick Service Restaurant or adjacent industry a plus
- Strong familiarity with corporate ESG reporting initiatives (inc. CDP, SBTi), evolving regulatory landscape (inc. SEC, CSRD, EUDR), and sustainability reporting frameworks (inc. TCFD, ISSB, TNFD)
- Strong business and financial acumen
- Solid problem-solving skills and analytical capabilities
- Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office
