Craftsman/Carpenter Maintenance Tech
POSITION SUMMARY
Responsible for the general maintenance of all buildings, utilities, mechanical, and equipment. Craftsman is more than just a handyman, they are a full-service carpenter able to perform anything from small to large renovations of animal exhibits, and facilities in general. Ability to recognize and perform quality work and take pride in their work.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIP
Reports directly to the Maintenance Foreman
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Performs skilled level building crafts and trades, with full knowledge of maintenance and preventative maintenance techniques, methods, practices, standards, procedures, safety precautions, and materials required for the assigned tasks.
- Reads and interprets blueprints, sketches, work orders and various plans and diagrams to lay out work. Determine and uses the necessary design diagrams, sketches or drawings, obtain needed approvals to complete scope and perform the work, then provide feedback back to the Maintenance Foreman.
- Operates, maintains troubleshoots and repairs various types of building equipment and systems, along with those tasks required to complete complicated tasks, and projects, including preparation and clean up responsibilities in assigned work areas and shops. As required, may be called on to operate heavy equipment.
- Safely operates and is experienced in hand, and power tools, lifts, forklifts, and all other tools and equipment required to perform preventative maintenance tasks and assignments.
- Operates computer systems and Facilities management applications for work order assignments including mobile work order systems, to receive and generate work order assignments, record asset changes, and equipment specification information.
- Estimate materials, time, and cost of products and / or services.
- Perform seasonal snowplow and ice removal operations and work with team members to ensure safe environment.
- Participate in a rotational on-call schedule. Work schedule might change during the week employee is scheduled to be on-call.
- Ensures the work areas conforms with the security and safety measures in effect and practices good housekeeping.
- Performs all other duties and assignments as assigned.
DESIRED EXPERIENCE
Education and Experience
Ten (10) years of building and carpentry trade skills.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Thorough knowledge of the standards, practices, materials, and methods used in three or more of the craft trades, such as HVAC, utility services, electrical, painting, plumbing, cement, masonry, dry wall, machinist, roofing, welding, doors/hardware or other recognized trade and maintenance areas, and familiar with codes and ordinances pertaining to these trades.
- Experience with HVAC and Plumbing controls and is able to demonstrate skills in controlling and troubleshooting control systems.
- Meet needed work deadlines and demonstrates positive attitude, leadership abilities and skills.
- Outstanding interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively with customers and co-workers.
- Ability to work with computer applications including MS word, excel, and outlook, and other online programs associated with facilities.
- Experienced in troubleshooting fire systems, HVAC, controls, electrical, plumbing and other building systems efficiently, providing both short and long term solutions to system problems.

Work Environment
Moderately heavy physical activity. Required push, pull or lift heavy weights up to 75 pounds. Difficult working positions. May have to stand, walk or sit in uncomfortable positions for extended periods and squat or crawl into small spaces under and near operational equipment to check and complete minor repairs. High exposure to disagreeable elements such as dust, fumes, noise, dampness, cold, heat, chemicals, or grease. Exposed to outside weather conditions year-round and moderate hazards.
