Job Summary:
Under moderate supervision, responsible for a variety of work on complex facilities systems. Work ranges from facility inspections, preventative maintenance rounds, regularly servicing equipment, remodels, building site and structural repairs, emergency repairs, remodel work, new exhibit construction work, and any other task. Facilities Services are members of the facilities maintenance team and shall support other maintenance personnel and perform other duties as required. Work will be conducted in a way that promotes animal welfare, environmental sustainability, as well as a sustainable culture of diversity, equity, and inclusion.
Core Activities:
- Assist senior level General Facilities and Machinist and work on a team for larger projects.
- Troubleshoot routine facility problems.
- Complete repairs to the building and site including but not limited to fencing, grading, concrete and rebar work, pavement, curbs and gutters, masonry, framing, drywall, trim, doors, windows, waterproofing, roofing, flooring, minor plumbing, mechanical hardware and other maintenance duties as assigned.
- Construct and install standard building systems, machines, and equipment.
- Perform routine daily inspections.
- Perform routine maintenance on building systems, machines, and equipment.
- Utilize work management software to respond to work requests, track jobs progress.
- Read plans, log changes, and perform data entry as needed.
- Provide regular status reports to supervisors.
- Participate in safety and other trainings as required.
- Interface and communicate with other MBA departments.
Preferred Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSAs):
- 3 years of general construction or facilities maintenance in a commercial or residential environment, or equivalent related experience
- 10-hour OSHA Safety training
- Experience with machine shop tools including but not limited to lates, mills, welders, drill press, saws and hand tools
- Forklift or scissor lift certifications
- Understating of building and fabrication techniques
- Ability to read and follow plans, schematics, and safety procedures
- Experience working in a safe manner compliant with the California Building Code, NFPA and OSHA
- Experience with elevated work, work over water, and work in a confined space
- Good computer skills including, but not limited to MS Office suite
- Good written and verbal communication and skills
- Ability to respond to emergencies and to work an irregular schedule that may include early mornings, nights, evenings, or weekends

Physical Requirements to Perform Essential Job Functions:
- Typical office equipment, ladders, hand tools, power tools, shop tools, person lifts, fork lift and small equipment as necessary
- Constant sitting, standing, walking, bending
- Occasional unassisted lifting up to 80 lbs
- Main aquarium and out buildings. At times over water, in confined spaces, and elevated work.
Hourly Compensation Range:
$28.27-$34.62 USD per hour. Starting rate will vary based on previous experience and relevant skills/knowledge set.
