This position is assigned to the maintenance division at Wind Cave National Park. The primary duties of this position are to perform laborer duties on buildings, structures, grounds, boundary fence, roads and trails while utilizing required personal safety equipment (eye protection, hearing protection, gloves, safety vests, etc.). Incumbent frequently lifts, carries and moves materials and supplies for long distances weighing 60 pounds and sometimes up to 100 pounds with assistance. Works on park fences digging post holes, carrying woven wire, steel posts, fencing material and tools. Loads, unloads fence supplies, heavy boxes, bulky supplies, trash, furniture and construction materials from trucks. Pulls weeds, trims shrubs, mows, waters and rakes lawns. Scrubs, strips, waxes, dusts, mops and scour lavatories, stools, urinals. Vacuums and shampoos carpets, changes building and trail lights, picks up litter, empties waste baskets, recycle bins, trash containers, sweeps and cleans steps, walkways and trails. Duties are sometimes performed while working from ladders or scaffolding. Work is performed both inside and outside during extreme weather conditions often dealing with the visiting public in highly congested areas. Selectee may work with higher graded employees on building maintenance and road repair projects when the need arises.

Accordingly, non-competitive rehire eligibility allows for re-appointment to the same position or another position appropriate for temporary appointment with the same qualification requirements (5 CFR 316.402[b][7]), based on series and grade, anywhere in the major subdivision (NPS).
If you have held a temporary seasonal appointment in the past 12 months and have already worked the maximum temporary appointment less than 1040 hours during that period, you are still welcome to apply. However, please be aware that exceeding the limit of 1040 hours in your established service year will result in the loss of your non-competitive rehire eligibility.
The limit can be exceeded by working multiple temporary seasonal positions that result in a combined total greater than 1040 hours. The limit also can be exceeded by working a single temporary seasonal appointment that exceeds 1040 hours, unless granted an exception by OPM.

Physical Demands: The work performed requires the exertion of moderate to very heavy physical effort. The work involves lifting and moving objects over 50 pounds, and in some cases, carrying 80 to 100 pounds (or more) with assistance.You will be evaluated for this job based on how well you meet the qualifications above.
