Pay Rate Starts At: $17.00/hour
Reports To: Assistant Manager / or Area Supervisor
Schedule: Must be able to work weekends and holidays; weekday hours also available
Hours: Vary and are dependent on weather and guest attendance; schedule subject to change through the spring and summer
Position Summary
Assist in the daily operations of New York Aquarium Merchandise Services department. Work cohesively with the management team to supervise and maintain an efficient environment and provide support for the gift shop operations as well as provide high quality and superior customer service that enhances the guest's visit, maximizes revenue, and supports the mission of the Wildlife Conservation Society.
Responsibilities
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Customer Service
• Provide superior service to guests, including maintaining general knowledge of park exhibits and amenities, answering questions and finding ways to create a positive and educational experience
• Drive location sales by increasing key metrics such as ATS (Average Transaction), UPT (Units per Transaction), and number of transactions.
• Handle any customer issues professionally.
• Communicate customer feedback to management team.
Operations
• Maintain full knowledge of all cash handling policy and procedures. Ensure all team members are in compliance with these policies.
• Protect integrity of data by ensuring correct register procedures are being performed.
• Manage loss prevention through the use of customer service skills and proper selling floor coverage.
• Assist in the management of The Aqua Theatre program and Tattoo cart.
• Ensure areas are neat, clean and organized every day.
• Ensure merchandise is replenished throughout the day to support sales.
• Maintain stockroom organization on a daily basis.

Qualification Requirements
• Good time management skills. Ability to be on time and ready for work when expected.
• Prior cash handling experience preferred.
• Customer service oriented.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Basic computer and mathematical skills.
• Proactive and outgoing nature – work efficiently and ability to multitask.
• Ability to stay outdoors for long periods of time in a variety of weather conditions, including high heat and humidity.
• Ability to frequently move objectives up to 50 pounds.
• Dependable and reliable.
