Summary/Objective
The Seasonal Zoo Educator is a full-time, seasonal position responsible for the delivery of daily instruction, camper engagement, parent communication, overall experience, safety, and security of education program participants throughout the season. Through games, crafts, Zoo visits and more, the Seasonal Zoo Educator cares for and supports youth in our programs as we help connect them with wildlife and wild places. This position works cooperatively with Education staff, other Zoo team members, volunteers, and interns throughout the camp season.
Essential Functions
· Directly responsible for content of activities, experiences, and supervision of Education Program Participants throughout the camp day.
· Provides an entertaining, safe, engaging environment for participants.
· Responsible for organization and presentation of classroom teaching spaces and materials.
· Assist with the research and development of themed educational programs.
· Communicates regularly and effectively with students, parents, and Zoo staff.
· Work effectively as part of the Zoo Education Team, with staff, volunteers, and interns.
· Communicate with others immediately when responding to an incident or an emergency.

Expected Hours of Work: This is a seasonal position. Hours may vary and do not exceed 40 hours a week. Requires flexibility in work schedule to fulfill Zoo Camp program needs.
Required Education and Experience
· High school diploma or equivalent.
· 2 years of relevant experience, or any equivalent combination of education and experience that demonstrates the ability to do the job.
· Must be 18 years of age or older
Preferred Education and Experience: Have or working towards a secondary degree or postgraduate in education. Previous experience in working in professional childcare, educational, entertainment or hospitality organization.
Supervisory Responsibility: This position has no direct reports.
Reporting Structure: This position reports to the Education Specialists.
Work Environment: This role will interact with large groups of children and adults in a classroom environment and on zoo grounds near animal ambassadors. While performing the duties of this job, the employee will be exposed to outside weather conditions, wet/or humid conditions, fumes or airborne particles and vibration. The noise level in the work environment ranges from quiet to moderately loud.
Physical Demands: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
· Must be capable of moving across zoo grounds, remaining stationary for long periods of time, and working outdoors in variable weather conditions. Must be capable of transporting supplies weighing up to 20 pounds.
