Major Duties
These positions are located at:American Memorial Park (U.S. National Park Service) - Saipan, MP. Saipan is the largest island in the Northern Mariana Islands with an area of approximately 44 square miles or 115 square kilometers. Annual temperatures vary minimally with greater temperature variation occurring from daytime to nighttime. The tropical marine climate of the island allows visitors to enjoy many days of full sun, warm temperatures, and seasonal trade winds. The rainy season, with the possibility of typhoons, occurs from July through November and the dry season is from December through June. Sunscreen or UV protective clothing is a must along with a hat and sunglasses. Staying hydrated and seeking shade for occasional periods of rest is also recommended. Restroom facilities are available within the park. You may purchase bottled water and food from a variety of shops, convenience stores and restaurants located within short walking distance from the park. DUTIES: Operate heavy power equipment such as lawn mowers, portable snow blowers, and all types of hand tools (such as shovels, rakes, lawn edging equipment, etc.) to maintain buildings, grounds, roads, trails, etc. Load and unload supplies and materials from trucks, trailers, dollies, etc., and move furniture. Remove and set up signs, paint picnic tables and signs, rake and water lawns, trim trees and shrubs, pick up litter, etc. Use and maintain heavy type power mowers, including adjusting blades, cleaning, and oiling. Perform janitorial duties for buildings. Physical Demands: The work performed requires the exertion of moderate to very heavy physical effort. The work involves lifting and moving objects over 50 pounds, and in some cases, carrying 80 to 100 pounds (or more) with assistance. Working Conditions: Outside work is usually performed under all kinds of weather conditions. Indoor work is often accomplished in office buildings or in well-lighted, heated, and ventilated areas such as warehouses, loading docks, or trade shops. Frequently exposed to weather and temperature extremes, drafts, noise, dust, and dirt and the possibility of bruises, muscle strains, cuts and scrapes. Work requires the employee to follow proper safety procedures and use standard safety equipment such as gloves, ear protectors, safety glasses, and steel-toe shoes to avoid possible hazards in the work area.
