Project Development:
- Reviewing and approving technical supporting documents relating to environmental approvals, project appeals, sizing, site selection etc.
- Conducting and reporting on site visits.
- Conducting technical due diligence examinations on prospective project acquisitions and external technical reports.
- Providing strategic input on development and business development strategies, via market and business case analysis.
- Developing and reviewing yield and cost estimations.
- Other transversal tasks including writing of technical methods and procedures.
Bid preparations and project closing
- Play a key role in bidding, and bringing hybrid projects to financial close, including:
- Tender rules and contracts analysis and strategy definition.
- Strategy for hybrid system sizing and optimisation.
- Definition of augmentation strategies.
- Conducting dispatch modelling.
- Review, approval of and contribution to LCOS and LCOE optimisation.
- Definition of performance/KPI metrics.
- Leading renewables forecasting trials, methods and penalty analysis.
- Providing input on the merchant risk definition and modelling.
- Interfacing with the Technical, Development, Legal and Finance teams.
- Analysis and interrogation of information, designs and pricing provided by contractors.
- Supporting the procurement teams in contract negotiations and Employers Requirements.
- Responsible for fully optimised and compliant bid returnable.
Implementation and Asset management:
- Supporting the Implementation and Asset Management teams on topics relating to final design interrogation, construction and commissioning as well as performance monitoring and testing.
- Besides BESS specific tasks, the Hybrid team may be required to provide support for the Wind and PV work streams where needed, including in contract management, yield assessment, LCOE calculations. The Senior Hybrid Energy Engineer will coordinate the team in providing this support. The scope also includes potentially supporting the Paris team or other subsidiaries on hybrid projects.
- The Senior Hybrid Energy Engineer may be expected to assume various roles in the coordination of project bids in South Africa and sub-Saharan Africa, across various technologies including wind, solar and storage, with responsibilities to:
- Define project design and specifications based on bid/customer requirements, project permits and technical limits, monitor compliance in all areas.
- Manage the technical optimisation of all project elements, with a focus on reduction in cost of energy.
- Assist Project team during procurement of main components with technical specifications, Employers requirements definition and technical review of offers.
- Manage the tender design process and design optimisation of balance of plant elements, in accordance with the requirements for the procurement of equipment and services and project bidding.
- Engage with all technical stakeholders, including internal engineering resources, technical advisors, contractors and utility/grid operator in defining the optimal technical solution.
Requirements
At least a degree in an Engineering, Science field (BSc, BTech or equivalent) or Computer Sciences
Beneficial Qualifications and Certifications: Master and PhD
At least five years work experience within the Renewables Energies industry.
Technical competencies:
- Experience with Homer, Plexos, Pypsa or self-developed storage optimization modelling required.
- Excellent technical understanding of batteries and experience in all project phases for hybrid projects, especially in bidding and development phases.
- Strong technical acumen with excellent problem-solving abilities and good attention to detail.
- Excellent software competency with Python (excel modelling acceptable) for modelling hybrid systems and data processing and analysis.
- Excellent knowledge of MS 365 Office: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams.
- Optional software competency with Windpro, Autocad, Pvsyst, Global Mapper, PV Case.
- Statistical and/or data science background a plus.
- Willingness to travel an river’s license
