Description:
Under general administrative direction from the Plant Manager, plans, organizes and directs the operations and environmental activities at the JBS Souderton Beef Facility, JBS Souderton Rendering/Hides & the JBS Wastewater Treatment Plant.
Main Responsibilities:
- Managethe EnvironmentalDepartmentand secondary wastewater treatment
- Review environmental data, operations andtesting protocolas requiredfor compliance and conformance including best practices
- Keep accurate recordsand track necessary data toensure all documentation is kept up to date and accurate
- Design and verify adequate sampling and testing strategies toreduce loading to secondary andimprove wastewater quality
- Make sure all safety rules andrequirements are followed
- Communicateeffectively withplant leadership andregulators on matters related to permitting,relevant regulationsand non-compliance issues.
- Ensure thatboth sitesmaintainsnecessary environmental permitsincluding submitting for renewal in a timely manner to avoid expiration.
- Investigateenvironmentalcomplaints.
- Provide environmental training for staff and division personnel.
- Ensure that all facilities have adequate and efficient environmental protection systems. Supervise design, construction and startup as may be required. Collaborate withsite, business unitandthird partyengineers on design, budgeting, startup and permitting on projectsassigned to them. Stay current on changing regulations and technology.
- Participate in the emergencyand chemical release reporting and response program.
- Respond timely to environmental concerns including spills
- Providedailyand routinereports to management
- Managedata trackingand reportonutility’s, water,gas andelectricity
- Drive sustainability and sustainabilityprojectsand lead the utilities team (routine meetings)
- Lead the yield loss reduction team, develop yield loss reduction projects with the site team
- Complete routine audits with a focus on environmental opportunities including but not limited to yield loss and utilities waste
- Drive waste reduction and landfill diversion projects
- Serves as liaison and is accountable to the Pennsylvania State Department of Environmental Protection on Wastewater Treatment Plant performance as required by the NPDES permit.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in environmental engineering or similar field preferred.
- 3 years experience in Environmental and Waste Water Engineering field
• Knowledge of regulatory compliance, wastewater treatment and air permitting programs - Proven management skills.
- Must have excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Computer skills with Microsoft Office Suite Products (Word, Excel, PPT, Outlook).
- Previous experience working with and appropriately handling confidential information.
- Must be able to work nights and weekends when required to troubleshoot system problems. Shall be on call during off hours as directed by Manager.
Education:
- Bachelor's degree in environmental engineering or similar field preferred.
