Job Description:
The Environmental Supervisor administers the Drinking Water Monitoring and Compliance Section under complex federal and state statutes and regulations requiring the application of broad management practices, while using significant judgment to interpret and apply appropriate policies, regulations and guidelines. This position will oversee the programs necessary to implement the Nebraska Safe Drinking Water Act and associated regulation Title 179, as well as activities to satisfy the requirements under the Federal Safe Drinking Water Act.

Location and address of position: 245 Fallbrook Blvd – Suite 100 – Lincoln, NE
Work schedule: Monday – Friday – 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. Flexible schedule may be allowed with management approval.
Job Duties:
- Manage the program and supervise staff. This position will be expected to mentor and guide staff to ensure protection of public health through the implementation of the Safe Drinking Water Program. Ensure that staff are properly trained and on task. Establish goals and regularly work with staff to achieve these goals.
- Manage the program budget to ensure that funds are properly expended and that transactions are properly documented and within budget limits. Coordinate with the Division to get a clear representation of the budget expenditures.
- Coordinate with other Divisions to ensure that impacts from the Drinking Water Division are considered when making decisions. Evaluate the impact of the decisions on those we serve by considering the risk to public health and the environment as well as affordability for those citizens we serve.
- Represent the program at state and national events and participate as a member of several associations. Responsible for monitoring proposed changes to federal requirements for the Drinking Water Program. Ensure that the program is in compliance with the Federal Safe Drinking Water Act.
- Must be an effective communicator and be able to present information on Department activities to groups and individuals on a federal, state, and local level.
Requirements/ Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s Degree in the physical sciences, natural sciences, environmental science, geology, biology, agronomy, civil engineering, environmental engineering, mechanical engineering, chemical engineering, hydrology, community and regional planning, or a related field AND two years of professional experience in a related field. Plus, experience leading and/or supervising others related to environmental programs. Experience may substitute for education on a year-for-year basis.
Preferred Qualifications: Excellent leadership, public relations and public speaking skills, provides professional and courteous customer service internally and with the public, ability to adapt and change priorities quickly; Creative problem-solving skills: Excellent technical writing skills; Ability to manage multiple on-going projects with proper time management skills; experience leading the development and implementation of programs or complex projects.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Knowledge of: the Safe Drinking Water Act (SDWA), Safe Drinking Water Information System (SDWIS), Public Water Systems, Wellhead Protection, Source Water Protection and NAC Title 179.
Skill in: process improvement, data management and assessment and budget management, grant and contract development and implementation
Ability to: manage, track, and report SDWA monitoring and compliance of public water systems, supervise a team of professional compliance officers, represent the Department at conferences, workshops, and meetings, assist with emergency situations, and oversee special projects, follow and enforce agency policies and procedures equitably.
