Summary
This position is located in Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area, in the Interpretation, Education and Partnerships Division. Seasonal Park Guides provide information, guided tours, and interpretive talks, answer visitor questions, ensure safety, and promote visitor engagement with park resources.
Major Duties
Provide pre-established interpretive talks explaining natural, cultural, and historic features, along with general park information. Answer recurring visitor questions using knowledge of park resources, history, and regulations. Guide small groups (up to 20 people) on short tours, ensuring safety, appropriate pacing, and clear interpretive information. Provide visitor services such as assistance with lost items, minor emergencies, first aid, and information on weather, routes, facilities, events, and safety. Perform miscellaneous operational tasks including crowd control, orienting new employees, minor maintenance, and supporting administrative functions (e.g., timekeeping, travel, inventories). Additional duties may include serving on search and rescue operations, participating in fire suppression activities, supporting orientation and on-the-job training for new employees, mentoring when assigned, and helping with crowd control at entrances and visitor centers. The typical seasonal entry-on-duty period for Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area is April-May, but can be variable during these months due to weather conditions, project needs, or funding.
