Major Duties
North Rim Supervision and Direction of All-Hazard Emergency Operations that are complex and multi-faceted due to the park's isolation and distance to other potential responding entities. Serves as Program Manager for Park Climbing Ranger Program and will develop and maintain a Preventative Search and Rescue (PSAR) program Emergency Medical Services Coordinator Search and Rescue/All Hazard Program Management Physical Demands: Incumbent must keep in excellent physical condition. Work is performed in both office and outdoor settings. Office activity is extremely busy, complex and often stressful. Outdoor work requires prolonged strenuous exertion over rough and hazardous terrain in all types of weather conditions. Incumbent may be called at any time to perform sustained and arduous activity relating to medical emergencies, search and rescue, structural or wildland fire control and law enforcement. Running, standing, and lifting are required. Incumbent is commonly required to backpack up to 60 pounds over extended distance while on patrol or during emergency situations. Incumbent must pass required medical examinations and meet and maintain a level of physical fitness equal to standards set forth in RM-9, RM-51, RM-18 and RM-58. Work Environment: Work is performed in an office setting, classroom, in the field, on trails, and in remote backcountry settings. Wildland fire, rescues, and EMS work involves frequent exposure to hazardous environments, extremes in temperature, and exposure to communicable diseases. Various levels of personal protective clothing are required to perform functions safely.
