SUMMARY:

Mortenson is currently seeking an experienced MEP Design Phase Manager to provide overall management direction and on Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing (MEP) dominant semiconductor/EV battery/PV module projects or for MEP scopes of work on large semiconductor/EV battery/PV module projects. These projects will contain significant process mechanical systems integral to manufacturing operations. Your responsibilities will be inclusive of project estimating, business partner selection, preliminary schedule, design development, quality control and planning for the commissioning of the MEP scope of work. Strong communication skills are necessary as you will interact with a variety of staff and customers in an ever-changing environment. Your ability to remain flexible, inventive, dedicated and efficient with a high level of integrity and confidentiality is vital to your success in this role.
What will you be doing?
Provide feedback and participate in the identification, development, preparation and presentation for the acquisition of new projects
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Design Phase Management:
- Oversee MEP-focused design efforts for projects utilizing Design-Build/EPC/CMAR project delivery methods
- Review MEP options, generate systems analysis, and provide system options for an advanced manufacturing project
- Providing meaningful recommendations to the project’s programming and conceptual design activities
- Coordinate and participate with Mortenson's Center for Sustainable Energy in life cycle cost analysis during MEP system selection
- Review documents from project award through buyout for system sizing, coordination, interface, and constructability and logistics solutions. Identify potential issues to appropriate engineering discipline
Estimating:
- Provide and/or participate in value alternative development with dollar magnitudes and review sessions for appropriate disciplines
- Present MEP estimate detail to clients and engineers
- Maintain mechanical and electrical historical cost data
- Prepare budgetary MEP estimates based upon program and schematic design information
Business Partners:
- Coordinate and support the planning for the procurement, install, took hook-up, and commissioning of owner furnished equipment (OFE)
- Assist bid team in analyzing market conditions and developing bid list
- Lead and/or participate in MEP business partner selection process including soliciting business partners, preparing estimate narratives (scope definition), coordinating design input, developing bid packages, proposal analysis, and final selection.
- Provide consistent support for project team(s) and on-site MEP resources during construction to ensure scope, quality and schedule performance goals established during design are met by our MEP business partners
- Evaluate mechanical and electrical changes from business partners
- Assist Project Manager in contract development for MEP business partners
- Integrating 3D/4D modeling technology into the preconstruction phase of the projects
Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Possess strong cross-cultural relationship building and influencing abilities internally and externally at all levels of the organization
- Strong communication, leadership, problem solving, initiative and teamwork skills
- Show strong computer skills in Microsoft Office
- Demonstrate knowledge of mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and low-voltage systems
- Working knowledge of construction equipment and techniques, scheduling and cost control procedures, drawings and specifications, and required standards
- Minimum of 12 years of construction experience, preferably experience with a Mechanical or Electrical Contractor in construction management supporting large semiconductor/microelectronics/advanced manufacturing fabrication facility projects ($100M+) utilizing Design-Build/EPC/CMAR project delivery method
- Minimum of five years estimating or on-site project management experience in construction with one to two years previous experience as a Preconstruction Manager
EDUCATION:
- Bachelor’s degree in Construction, Civil, Chemical, Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial, Materials or Architectural Engineering or Construction Management, or equivalent field
