Position Summary:
The Pittsburgh Parks Conservancy (PPC) seeks part-time, as-needed Event Assistants during the April-November event season. The seasonal Event Assistant will assist the Event Sales Coordinator in managing on-site events, ensuring day-of responsibilities are handled in a clear and confident manner. The successful candidate will have an excellent attendance record, a strong work ethic, and ability to direct in a fast-paced environment. Must be able to work a flexible schedule, including nights and weekends. This position is scheduled casually, as needed, at $15 per hour.
Position Duties:
- Assist and ensure that the event spaces are prepared and clean before each event. This may include moving tables and chairs, sweeping, and mopping as needed.
- Ensure that all pre-event procedures are followed per the event timeline.
- Ensures proper care, movement, and storage of all equipment such as tables, chairs, AV equipment, etc.
- Set up lighting and sound equipment as needed.
- Provide excellent customer service and greet guests in a friendly, attentive manner.
- Assist the Event Sales Coordinator with executing the event timeline and other duties as assigned per event.
- Remain visible to guests during the event.
- Follow safety procedures to reduce risk during events.
- Check-in with vendors at the end of the evening to ensure the cleanliness of the facility and catering area.
- Ensure that the event space is not damaged and left in good condition by vendors and clients.
- Assist with cleaning duties at the end of each event as needed (sweep, take out trash, wipe tables, etc.). Close and lock the building at the end of the event.
- Perform other duties as assigned to support internal and private events.
Experience and Qualifications:
- Minimum requirements include a high school diploma or equivalent.
- Event coordination experience preferred.
- Experience working in a time-sensitive and fast-paced environment is a plus. The Event Assistant will be asked to complete a task quickly and efficiently during event shifts.
- Understanding and following event plans and written/verbal directions accurately is .
- Has experience handling emergencies as they arise.
- Be reliable and able to work independently.
Work Environment, Hours of Work, and Travel Requirements:
- Hours : This position requires flexible availability, evenings, weekends, or daytime shifts as assigned.
- Able and willing to work in a variety of settings, both inside and outside.
- Able and willing to travel between PPC venues as assigned.
- Valid driver's license or government ID.
- The following three background clearances are within 60 days of hire: Department of Human Services Child Abuse History Clearance; Pennsylvania State Police Request for Criminal Records Check; Federal Criminal History Record Information (CHRI)
