Basic Job Functions:
- Develop laser scribe processes for advance semiconductor films that are competitive with First Solar’s incumbent CdTe-based laser processes as well as new thin film technologies.
- Serve as the one of top technical expert in laser process development and laser material interaction.
Education/Experience:
- Bachelor’s Degree in an engineering discipline or similar technical discipline and 3 years of experience as a Development Engineer IV at First Solar.
- Master’s Degree in an engineering discipline or similar technical discipline and 3 years of experience as a Development Engineer IV at First Solar.
- Ph.D. in an engineering discipline or similar technical discipline and 20 years of relevant technical experience or 3 years of experience as a Development Engineer IV at First Solar.
Required Skills/Competencies:
- Technical expert in thin film laser processes and pilot equipment development.
- Deep understanding of process / equipment interactions.
- In-depth knowledge in several fields from the list of photovoltaic device theory, material science, process engineering, characterization techniques, and other fields relevant to First Solar’s technology.
- Proven track record in pushing beyond the state-of-the-art in a given area to deliver and implement innovative solutions to challenging technical problems
- Excellent communication skills across organizations.
- Strong sense of project ownership with hands-on (not a remote role) and can-do attitude.
- Demonstrated ability to succeed in complex and technically challenging projects
Essential Responsibilities:
- Self-motivated innovator that uses deep technical knowledge to identify new opportunities and solutions to improve processes and equipment.
- Expected to lead a team of 4-6 individual contributors and define work group directions, goals and monitor project progress in addition to leading their own strategic goals.
- Design, execute and analyze engineering tests and solutions tackling non-standard problems.
- Expected to organize and lead cross-functional teams coordinating scale up to manufacturing of processes developed in the lab.
- Expected to be a laser process expert for thin film material processing and provide technical inputs and guidance to key cross-functional teams and task forces, beyond day-to-day responsibilities.
- Experience developing custom test structures and setups for process troubleshooting.
- Serve as technical mentor to development engineers and technicians.
- Regular literature reviews and updates for the group to keep current with technology trends.
- Ensure adherence to all safety and environmental procedures as well as housekeeping standards.

Estimated Salary Range:
- $106,000 - $165,000/annually
US Physical Requirements:
- Will sit, stand, or walk short distances for up to the entire duration of a shift
- Will climb stairs on an occasional basis
- Will lift, push, or pull up to 27 pounds on an occasional basis
- Required to use hands to grasp, lift, handle, carry or feel objects on a frequent basis
- 20/40 vision in each eye, with or without correction is required
- Must be able to comply with all safety standards and procedures
- May reach above shoulder heights and below the waist on a frequent basis
- May stoop, kneel, or bend, on an occasional basis
- Ability to wear personal protective equipment is required (including but not limited to; steel toed shoes, gloves, safety glasses, hearing protection, protective jacket or apron and arm guards)
- All associates working on the production floor may be required to wear a respirator at any given time and thus, the ability to wear a respirator is a condition of employment and continued employment (requires little or no facial hair)
