The lead application engineer provides technical support to the Regional sales/product team in the development of a pipeline of potential opportunities related to GE power system equipment and services. This is done through a consulting solutions approach demonstrating both technical expertise and building customer credibility. The consulting approach aims to identify and share current and emerging customer technical needs to enhance our tactical and strategic product position.

Essential Responsibilities
As a member of GE Vernova Consulting Services, the successful candidate will be an active contributor to GE Energy business initiatives related to power systems equipment and services. This position
requires a wide range of skills including:
- Perform technical analysis related to power electronic and power systems control of renewable generation, battery energy storage systems, large industrial drives, HVDC and FACTS.
- Support customers with power systems engineering expertise; including modeling, analysis, equipment design and specification, and failure mode analysis
- Create, modify and parametrize simulation models representing electrical equipment like gas turbines, wind turbines, solar inverters, battery storage and their controls in PSS/E, PSCAD, DIgSILENT Power Factory
- Perform power system planning studies, renewable integration studies, feasibility studies for HVDC and FACTS, Energy Storage etc. for large utility systems
- Effectively communicate results to both internal and external customers by preparing detailed written reports or presentations describing analyses performed, solutions developed, and customer value propositions
- Enhance industry knowledge and present technical content in regional forums and conferences; serve as a thought leader in industry activities
- Actively participate in a working environment where teamwork, quality, customer service and innovation are prized
- Willingness to travel to support project work (up to 10%)
Essential Qualifications/Requirements
- Minimum 5 years’ experience with MS/MTech degree in Electrical Engineering, with specialization in electrical power systems, Control systems, Automatic generation control, Renewable and Energy Storage or similar areas.
- Hands on Experience on the following:
- Experience on working with excitation systems and turbine governors of different OEMs
- Product knowledge on generators, excitation systems, turbines, protection relays and their configuration, etc.
- Dynamic modeling of generators, excitation systems, turbine governor system, motors, static and variable loads, renewable sources like wind, solar and Energy storage and their controllers, Variable frequency drives etc.
- Industrial System studies including Power Flow, short circuit, Stability analysis, unit protection, relay coordination, islanding and load shedding studies, switching studies
- Exposure to grid codes
- Ability to perform engineering analysis and design, and to develop engineering solutions in a team environment, and to provide technical consulting services to customers.
- Strong technical and analytical skills
- Strong written and oral communication skills especially customer interactions and Technical report writing skills
- Passion for working in an open, sharing, and constructive environment where colleagues’ welcome opportunities to assist each other, respect others’ opinions while solving challenging technical problems
- Exposure to IEC/IEEE Standards, national/regional operation/reliability guidelines, or Other relevant discipline.
- Willingness to travel (10-40% is typical)
Desired Characteristics
Minimum 1 year experience with Ph.D or other advanced degree with focus on electric power systems in following areas:
- Electric power systems engineering, or Transmission and Distribution Engineering design and operation, or Industrial power plants engineering e.g.,
- Renewable technologies and penetration issues to conventional grids
- Energy Storage systems
- Exposure to technologies like HVDC and FACTS and modeling of these devices and other power electronic drives for power flow and stability studies
- Product knowledge on wind, solar, HVDC, SVCs, STATCOMS etc.
- Proficiency with key analytical tools, e.g., MATLAB, PSLF, MAPS, MARS, EMTP/PSCAD, ETAP, PSS/E & similar
- Active participation within industry professional societies, such as s IEEE, CIGRE, etc.
