Summary
This position is located in Natchez Trace Parkway, in the Adminstrive Division. Open until 04/24/2026 whichever comes first. Major Duties
Responsible for planning, developing, and assisting management in executing safety program for the park. Acts as an advisor and consultant to management. Conducts safety and occupational health surveys, recommends measures to eliminate or control hazardous practices and conditions which may cause mishaps; prepares supplemental written safety procedures for application to local organizational components. Performs periodic onsite surveys for assigned organizations; inspects construction projects and designs to determine compliance with applicable occupational safety standards, (e.g., question of exits and stairs, floor load capacity, aisle space, adequacy of sprinkling systems, safety features on storage tanks containing flammable and volatile liquids, and the adequacy of scaffolding erected to facilitate painting of buildings). Plans and carries out safety and health inspections at field locations; concession operations, all park buildings, facilities, park housing and other park sites. Prepares reports of inspections/evaluations and makes prioritized recommendations for methods necessary to assure compliance with Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), NPS and other applicable safety and health standards/codes. Conducts evaluations of park safety and tailgate programs and recommends improvements. Is a resource for tailgate and safety meeting subjects and research materials. Advises supervisors and safety representatives of appropriate safety and occupational health measures to control or eliminate hazardous operating processes or environmental conditions. Assists supervisors in preparing written safe work practices and procedures, Job Hazard Analysis, hazard assessments, and other guidelines. Interprets safety and health standards and makes recommendations concerning best practices. Reviews park contracts for safety language and provides guidance to Contracting Officer Representatives (COR) regarding inspecting contractor safety plans and work sites. Provides recommendations or remedial steps to correct any deficiencies. Investigates mishaps (i.e., personal injury, visitor injury, motor vehicle, property damage), obtains statements from witnesses, and photographs mishap scene; records.
