Summary
The purpose of the position is to perform standardized biological science technical support functions in one, or more, of the following program areas: wildlife, fisheries, or plants.
Major Duties
Assists in conducting censuses and surveys. Makes routine and recurring field observations of natural resource conditions. Following instructions and standardized procedures collects data on condition of forage, range, or streams. Records all data collected and provides findings to supervisor or a higher-graded staff. Assists in carrying out field activities in support of such programs as the control of non-native and invasive plant species and enhancement of native plant populations. Such activities may include inventory and assessment and application of herbicides. Assists in the preparation of reports, plans, and guidelines. Enters and retrieves data from Geographic Information System (GIS) and/or other information management systems. Tallgrass Prairie National Preserve Tallgrass Prairie National Preserve is located in Strong City, Chase County in east-central Kansas. Comprised of 10,894 acres, the preserve showcases an outstanding example of the tallgrass prairie ecosystem and historic structures and features of the former Spring Hill Ranch. The preserve is managed by both the National Park Service and The Nature Conservancy as a unit of the national park system.
