We are seeking a Construction Environmental Manager to support a major mining project. Reporting to the Program Manager (with a dotted line to the Operations Environment Manager), this role will lead environmental oversight during construction.
You will be responsible for managing environmental personnel and ensuring all project activities comply with regulatory requirements, permits, and environmental management plans.
Key Responsibilities
Team Leadership & Coordination
- Lead and coordinate a team of Qualified Environmental Persons (QEPs) and Construction Environmental Monitors (CEMs)
- Ensure all team members are properly trained and qualified
- Confirm understanding of project permits and environmental management plans
- Oversee daily environmental inspection reporting and documentation
- Support and coordinate Indigenous Land Guardians on site
- Participate in construction planning and align environmental resources with project timelines
Compliance & Monitoring
- Ensure environmental monitoring is conducted in accordance with the Construction Environmental Management Plan (CEMP)
- Conduct regular site audits to ensure regulatory and permit compliance
- Lead investigations into environmental incidents, non-compliance, and spills
- Exercise authority to suspend work if required and notify the Chief Inspector within 12 hours
Reporting & Data Management
- Compile and report environmental data (daily, weekly, monthly)
- Collaborate with permitting and reclamation teams
- Support soil management activities including grubbing and stripping
Please note - This is a site-based opportunity, Monday to Friday, in Princeton BC.
Requirements- Familiarity with environmental regulations including Environmental Management Act (EMA).
- Familiarity with Mines Act.
- Familiarity with Health, Safety and Reclamation Code for Mines in BC.
- Familiarity with Metal and Diamond Mining Effluent Regulations (MDMER).
- Familiarity with Water Sustainability Act.
- Familiarity with Fisheries Act.
- Familiarity with Migratory Birds Convention Act.
- Working knowledge of Construction Environmental Monitoring Plans.
- Working knowledge of ML/ARD Plans.
- Working knowledge of Erosion and Sediment Control Plans.
- Experience managing environmental teams on large-scale construction or mining projects.
- Strong understanding of environmental compliance, monitoring, and reporting requirements.
