DescriptionPurpose of Position/Summary:
The Safety and Environmental Manager assists the Sr. Manager, Safety Environmental and Metal Finishing, in overseeing the safety and environmental activities and performance of associates.
Essential Duties/Responsibilities:
• Ensures compliance with federal and state environmental regulations;
• Ensures compliance with OHSA, DOT, IDEM and EPA, and local, state and federal regulations;
• Ensures ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 registrations are maintained in good standing;
• Ensures KYBJ safety and environmental targets are met;
• Oversees preparation of materials for and co-conducts monthly Environmental Safety Committee meeting;
• Leads Initial Safety Response process and countermeasure implementation;
• Participate in Quality Safe Audit to ensure all safety regulations are compliant for the process;
• Develop, implement and assist plant management team with strategic planning for development and use of specific awareness programs (5S, Housekeeping Audits, etc.);
• Develop, implement and assist plant management team with strategic planning for development of energy, CO2, and renewable energy programs to meet reduction goals;
• Facilitate activities to Reduce, Reuse, Recycle and continue efforts in improving waste disposal;
• Coordinates and manages safety-related facilities programs such as fire protection, monitoring services, emergency lighting and exits, and security;
• Provide training, mentoring and guidance to develop world class staff;
• Maintain communication of safety and environmental issues with management;
• Manages safety budget, projects, and capital expenditures to achieve company goals;
• Oversees waste water treatment activities to maintain regulatory compliance;
• Domestic and international travel is on an as needed basis;
• Other duties assigned by the Sr. Manager, Safety Environmental and Metal Finishing on an as needed basis.

Job Requirements:
Bachelor of Science degree in Safety, or related technical discipline, from an accredited institution is preferred. At least 5 years of experience in Safety and Environmental and/or an equivalent combination of education and experience in a manufacturing environment is required. Safety and environmental certification is strongly preferred. ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 internal auditing skills, as well as laboratory and waste water treatment experience is a plus. This position also requires the ability to work in a cross-functional, fast paced environment, and manage multiple activities simultaneously. Microsoft skillset is required. This position requires the ability to identify and resolve issues without direct supervision. Excellent analytical, negotiation, project management, organization, evaluation and problem solving skills are required. Excellent communication, both written and verbal, skills required. Ability to influence / persuade others and gain acceptance / approval of innovative ideas and concepts, good strategic planning skills required.
Supervisory Responsibilities/Direct Reports:
This position does not have any subordinate associates reporting to it.
Difficulty of Work:
This position requires the ability to understand all safety and environmental policies and enforce them as needed by holding associates accountable for their actions. Processes and procedures are well defined and must be followed. The ability to adapt in constantly changing situations is a must. Task and support responsibility change daily. The ability to manage time effectively and multitask is also important.
Responsibility:
This position will have a lot of autonomy while working within the Production Engineering Department. Detailed responsibilities are listed above.
Personal Work Relationships:
Assignments require working with multiple departments and divisions within KAC in addition to outside vendors and customers.
Physical Effort:
This position requires the ability to be on feet for long periods of time. Bending, kneeling, and squatting are required to perform tasks. This position requires the ability to lift up to 40 pounds with or without reasonable accommodations.
Working Conditions:
Working conditions are normal for an office and/or production environment. Special attention to work environment and areas surrounding the equipment is critical. Normal PPE is required such as safety shoes, safety glasses, and hearing protection.
