The battery is the centerpiece of modern electric drive concepts. In order to make this electric energy storage unit as efficient, powerful, cost-effective and safe as possible we benefit of top-notch infrastructure and labs, where our multidisciplinary, international team of researchers develops innovative solutions across the entire value chain, making AIT one of the few institutions worldwide to cover the entire battery research and production value chain.
Industry Expert & Senior Research Lead (f/m/d) For Battery Cell Manufacturing
CENTER FOR TRANSPORT TECHNOLOGIES
- Together with the unit’s leadership team you will co-define the strategy for battery cell manufacturing with the main focus: digitalisation & energy efficiency in production processes from conventional Lithium-ion batteries to Generation 5.
- You will identify scientific and technological trends and turn them into research and innovation opportunities.
- You will build and manage a strong research project portfolio by acquiring national and international research projects (Horizon Europe, FFG).
- Maintaining and accelerating industrial cooperations within and outside of Europe will be of high priority for you. This includes portfolio management and expansion in alignment with our research strategy.
- You will engage with key stakeholders across academia, industry, regulatory and funding bodies as well as the public sector.
- You will strengthen partnerships to drive applied research and innovation and advocate scientific excellence in applied research.
- You will boost the unit’s visibility through publications in high-impact journals, presentations at conferences and industry events.
- You will lead and develop a multidisciplinary and diverse team of scientists, research engineers and technicians.
Your qualifications as an Ingenious Partner:
- You hold a PhD degree in chemistry, physics, materials science, or related fields.
- You have at least 8 years of work experience in material and process development, as well as characterization and production of battery cells and their components with a focus on Gen3 LiB’s, solid-state batteries and other next generation energy storage systems.
- Recognised expertise in one of the above-mentioned scientific fields, demonstrated through patents, publications, project leadership, and successful acquisition of research and industrial projects.
- You have a broad international industrial network and are used to work in an industry-oriented, application-driven environment.
- Proven ability to lead and manage national and international research projects, ensuring high scientific standards and practical application.
- Skilled in coordinating interdisciplinary teams, aligning contributions, and fostering collaboration across research and industry partners.
- Experience in personnel development, including mentoring, recognising potential, and conducting development talks in coordination with management.
- High level of initiative, commitment, and the ability to work independently while integrating knowledge across domains.
- Excellent communication skills in English (spoken and written). German language skills are beneficial, but not mandatory.
What to expect:
The gross annual salary on a full-time basis (38,5 h / week) according to the collective agreement amounts to at least EUR 73.794,-- as a basis and is supplemented by further, variable salary components. The actual total salary package is determined individually according to your qualifications and experience.
