Are you passionate about sustainability and strengthening climate resilience? Join our Energy, Equity & the Environment (E3) Team as a Sustainability Intern and play a meaningful role in expanding the tree canopy Citywide.
In this position, you will support the long-term development and implementation of programs and policy recommendations focused on increasing and sustaining the City’s tree canopy. Using the City’s recent tree canopy inventory and assessment data, you will help update existing City plans and policies to align with best practices and community needs.
This E3 internship offers hands-on experience collaborating with City departments, local governments, community organizations, and key stakeholders. You will research case studies from other municipalities, conduct community interviews, and help identify innovative and equitable approaches to expanding urban tree canopy.
This role is ideal for someone who is motivated, analytical, community-focused, and interested in gaining real-world experience in sustainability planning and urban forestry.
The intern will receive a stipend of $4,000, paid in $500 increments according to our paycheck cycle. The position is estimated to start on May 4, 2026, but that date is flexible along with the end date. A total of 225 hours are required for this part-time position over the summer, with flexible scheduling during our work hours of Monday to Friday 8 to 5.
Minimum Qualifications
Student should be a current undergraduate or graduate student in Environmental Studies, Environmental Sustainability, Planning, Landscape Architecture, Forestry, Public Policy or other related field to qualify.
A preferred candidate will have skills and experience in community engagement and policy writing. Bilingual in Spanish is also preferred.
