DescriptionThe Scale Yard Associate (Bilingual) is responsible for assisting in identifying, sorting, and grading different types of scrap and recyclable metals in the retail department. This role includes assisting customers with loading and unloading their materials onto the scale, ensuring a smooth and efficient process. The associate helps ensure materials are properly separated while maintaining a safe, organized, and customer-friendly work environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist in Identifying and sorting various metals (aluminum, copper, brass, stainless steel, steel, etc.) by grade.
- Inspect incoming materials to ensure they meet company and customer specifications.
- Use basic hand tools, magnets, and testing equipment to determine metal type and quality.
- Place graded materials in designated bins, containers, or storage areas.
- Assist equipment operators with loading and unloading materials.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work area.
- Follow all safety procedures and wear required personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Report unsafe conditions, damaged materials, or equipment issues to management.
Qualifications
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Experience: 1-2 years of previous experience in a production environment; experience in recycling or scrap metal is a plus
- Skills: Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred.
