Role description:
The Technical Lead will serve as a recognized expert in PFAS, DNAPL, LNAPL, complex hydrogeological settings, and contaminant fate and transport. This role will help in shaping and advancing Arcadis’ technical capabilities by guiding the delivery of large, highly complex projects and enhancing the company’s reputation as a leader in contaminated sites assessment and remediation across Canada.
The Technical Lead is expected to build and maintain strong client relationships, contribute to the development of national strategy and technical excellence, and support the growth of Arcadis’ talent through mentorship, coaching, and thought leadership.
Additionally, this position plays a critical role in integrating Arcadis’ service lines to deliver cohesive, high-value solutions for clients nationwide.
Role accountabilities:
As a senior advisor in contaminated sites, the Technical Leader brings deep expertise in PFAS, DNAPL, LNAPL, complex hydrogeology, and contaminant fate and transport. They will lead the design and development of complex scopes of work, technical approaches, and innovative scientific solutions for major projects. Managing and delivering large, complex, multidisciplinary projects with a focus on technical quality, client satisfaction, and strong commercial performance is a core responsibility. The Technical Lead acts as an escalation point for technical issues within account teams or regions, fostering resolution and knowledge sharing.
Building and maintaining relationships with executive-level clients supports business development and the strategic growth of Arcadis’ contaminated sites portfolio. Internally, this role serves as a thought leader and expert resource, contributing to Communities of Practice and advancing Arcadis’ technical standards. They also represent the company externally by presenting technical topics and research at conferences, in publications, and through participation in technical committees.
To remain at the forefront of the field, this role involves staying current with emerging contaminants, regulatory developments, and scientific advancements, translating these insights into practical applications for Arcadis teams. Leadership extends to mentoring and supporting technical specialists, fostering capability development and performance management across the national team.
The Technical Lead contributes to and leads the development of complex bids, ensuring proposals are competitive and of high quality. They make authoritative decisions and recommendations within their areas of expertise, understanding the broader impact on project outcomes and client programs. Engagement with Arcadis Global resources such as GDCs and GECs is encouraged to enhance project delivery and maintain technical excellence. Additionally, the Technical Lead plans, schedules, and coordinates detailed phases of scientific work for major projects, advising project managers on risks, scope changes, and technical challenges.
Qualifications & Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant scientific field; advanced degree (MS, MBA) preferred, with professional accreditation
- 12+ years of environmental consulting experience, recognized expertise in PFAS, DNAPL, LNAPL, complex hydrogeology, and contaminant fate and transport
- Proven track record managing large-scale, complex projects and executive-level client relationships, supported by strong industry networks
- In-depth knowledge of relevant regulations, standards, and codes of practice; additional training
- Advanced technical skills including scientific software proficiency, technical writing, research, data analysis, and strategic problem-solving
- Strong leadership, communication, and consulting skills with ability to mentor teams, deliver high-quality outcomes, and integrate Arcadis service lines into client solutions

The salary range for this position is $160,000-210,000. The base salary represents Arcadis’ hiring range for this position. Actual salaries will vary and will be based on various factors, such as location, skills, experience, and qualification for the role.
