Job Summary
The City of St. Peters is seeking a Seasonal Environmental Health Inspector to support mosquito abatement and health nuisance control efforts. This position involves fieldwork, resident interaction, and data management to ensure a safe and healthy environment for our community.
Normal Shift: This is a seasonal position, typically Monday through Friday, with 25-40 hours per week. Work is primarily scheduled in the evenings/dusk.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct daily vector control activities, including the use of pesticides.
- Investigate environmental and health nuisances, including mosquitoes, swimming pools, and noise concerns, and accurately document findings.
- Communicate effectively with residents to answer questions, address concerns, and provide guidance during property inspections.
- Maintain and update maps, routing, and data logs related to mosquito control programs.
- Perform minor mechanical repairs or maintenance as needed.
- Ensure all work aligns with City safety standards and procedures.
- Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Requirements
- Must be a U.S. citizen or lawfully authorized alien worker.
- High school diploma or GED certificate.
- Valid Missouri Motor Vehicle Operator's license.
- Ability to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally more than 75 pounds.
- Ability to walk considerable distances on uneven terrain.
- Moderate knowledge of basic public health principles and practices.
- Must be able to work nights, weekends, and holidays as required.
Desired Qualifications
- Certified Public Operator Category 8 (Public Health Pest Control) Applicator license.
- Skilled in operating and maintaining tools and light equipment.
- Experience conducting field studies and water sampling.
- Experience using maps, routing, and tracking activities in an Access database.
- Considerable familiarity with streets, parks, and trails in St. Peters.
