DescriptionThe purpose of this position is vital in the implementation of our EHS systems in Australia and New Zealand MU in response to the requirement of Australia and New Zealand EHS Law and support the requirement of the customer and Vertiv.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership & Culture Development
- Provide visible EHS leadership, direction and coaching to leadership teams and frontline leaders to develop an EHS culture aligned with organizational vision
- Maintain regular workplace visibility, building relationships with internal and external stakeholders
- Support planning teams to integrate EHS requirements throughout project planning and delivery
- Undertake field-based leadership activities per KPI targets and maintain zero tolerance for unsafe behaviour with clear consequences
- Monitor monthly recognition awards and actively encourage innovation
Strategic Planning & Implementation
- Participate in strategic planning sessions with EHS Management and review high-risk planned works for compliance
- Manage rollout and verification of initiatives as directed by EHS Manager and Global
- Ensure EHS Management Plans and strategies are implemented, monitored, reviewed with corrective actions for deficiencies
Risk Management & Compliance
- Provide coordination and advice on EHS practices, systems and procedures ensuring compliance with management systems
- Develop and implement Critical Risk Management framework ensuring personnel and subcontractors comply with EHS Management Plans
- Conduct monthly Risk Register reviews and Risk and Opportunity reviews with project teams
- Develop Safe Work Methods Statements (SWMS), conduct regular EHS audits/inspections, and manage effective permitting systems
- Ensure risk controls follow Hierarchy of Controls with minimum Engineering Control level for critical risks
- Consult workforce on changes before implementation and monitor effectiveness
Communication & Stakeholder Consultation
- Support workplace consultative framework including client meetings, leadership operational meetings, and WHS committees
- Build stakeholder relationships through effective engagement, collaboration and consultation strategies
- Facilitate Work Activity Pre-starts, Work Group Meetings, Toolbox Talks, and specific inductions
- Cascade EHS alerts, lessons learned, and policy changes ensuring implementation and effectiveness monitoring
Subcontractor & Supplier Management
- Ensure subcontractors complete onboarding procedures and review work activity documentation (SWMS, ITP's, training compliance)
- Conduct performance reviews and inspections of subcontractor work activities
- Inspect all subcontractor plant, equipment and vehicles prior to site use
- Provide guidance on critical risk controls, SWMS and EHS Management Plans, and monitor performance KPIs
Incident & Injury Management
- Respond to, manage, notify and investigate incidents in accordance with notification protocols and Safety Stratus reporting
- Complete investigation draft reports within 14 calendar days for senior management review
- Notify injury management team for all injuries and prepare Alerts and Lessons Learned
- Ensure investigation actions are closed out and Employee Assistance Plan (EAP) is offered as required
- Assist in Rehabilitation/Return to Work cases
Occupational Health & Wellbeing
- Ensure work-related health procedures are in place and adhered to, including Drug and Alcohol Testing
- Communicate and consult on known or developing occupational health risks
- Ensure occupational hygiene hazards and exposure risks are assessed and managed
- Provide Health and Wellbeing training material and ensure EAP access and awareness
Emergency Preparedness & Response
- Ensure compliance with Emergency Response Plan and facilitate emergency scenario testing and drills
- Assist with crisis management and conduct post-incident lessons learned sessions
- Ensure facilities and workplace setups comply with Emergency Procedures and EHS Management Plan
Governance & Assurance
- Ensure compliance with scheduled audit requirements and assist in audit preparation
- Monitor audit action effectiveness and completion within timeframes
- Maintain inspection schedules for site facilities, equipment testing (fire services, first aid), racking, plant, access/egress, chemical storage, and risk register items
- Ensure reasonable and practical cost management in duty execution
WHS, Environment & Quality
- Comply with all Work, Health & Safety, Environment and Quality obligations
- Actively promote safety in the workplace

| Education/Qualification: |
- Bachelor’s degree in occupational health & safety, or related field
|
| Specialist Knowledge: |
- Excellent knowledge of the Australia and New Zealand EHS Law and regulations
- Emphasis on electrical safety, ARC Flash, Lockout, Machine Guarding, Ergonomics, etc.
- Knowledgeable in ISO 14001, ISO 9001 and ISO 45001
- Proficiency in MS Office and Smartsheet

| Practical Experience: |
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in Occupational Safety and Health role, with exposure to field service operation and risk management
