The Director of Donor Stewardship is responsible for directing all aspects of donor stewardship and institutional grant management within Global Donor Relations. They lead a team of high-performing professionals, establish a vision for excellent stewardship at TNC, identify and help solve key challenges, and ensure best-in-class stewardship of the organization’s donors, with a focus on principal gift donors. The Director of Donor Stewardship reports to the Global Director of Donor Relations and is a member of the Donor Relations leadership team.
The Director of Donor Stewardship leads the team responsible for implementing bespoke principal gift stewardship, delivering complex grant management required by institutional donors, and developing and supporting consistent organization-wide stewardship strategy. They set priorities and goals, track results, and make sure teams follow shared best practices across the organization. They collaborate regularly and deeply with donor communications and engagement staff and work closely with the leadership of TNC’s Principal Gift and Global Markets teams to ensure excellence at all stages of the donor cycle.
They are responsible for maintaining stewardship and grant management operational resources and strategies and ensuring they inform all aspects of recognition, campaign stewardship, challenge/match incentives, grant standards, gift acceptance, and reporting across TNC. They turn strategy into action by getting donors, senior leaders, and internal partners aligned and by clearing roadblocks, so work is delivered on time and to the highest standard.
They hire, coach, and develop staff; provide training and guidance to their team, to the Donor Relations Department, and to partners across TNC. They improve tools, practices, and vendor support to reduce risk and increase results. They help shape policies and standards and may present recommendations to the Board of Directors, Campaign Committee, trustees and others.

What You’ll Bring:
Bachelor’s degree and 8 years related experience, including experience working at a senior level.
Experience in conceiving, developing, and managing multiple projects and strategic goals.
Experience in planning and delivering budgetary responsibilities.
Experience managing and supervising a multidisciplinary team.
Experience working in a large, complex, not-for-profit environment.
Experience, coursework, or other training in principles, practices, and procedures of relevant field.
Desired Qualifications:
Multi-lingual skills and multi-cultural or cross-cultural experience appreciated.
Advanced understanding of best practices in non-profit management, including campaign stewardship and broad based stewardship program management.
Effectively communicates via presentations, conversations, and documents.
Experience managing a geographically dispersed team.
Expert knowledge of current and evolving trends in relevant discipline.
Proficiency in synthesizing materials from multiple sources into a coherent and accurate summary.
Proficiency in working independently as well as jointly with colleagues on a team.
Salary Information:
This position may be based in any country where TNC has an established entity, taking into consideration legal restrictions, such as non-national ratios and immigration processing times. For U.S. based applicants only, the starting pay range for this position is generally within the range of $138,500 - $201,850 for annual base salary and is based on location, qualifications, specific skills, and experience. This range only applies to candidates whose country of employment is the USA. For all other applicants, pay ranges will be in local currency, the pay range will be based on the local labor market, and not tied to the above pay range. Your geographic location will be confirmed during the recruitment and used to determine your actual pay range. Additionally, for all applicants, actual pay will fall within a range based on a variety of factors including, for example, the candidate’s qualifications, specific skills, and experience.
