Summary
This position is located in the National Weather Service (NWS), National Centers for Environmental Prediction (NCEP), with one vacancy in Warrenton, VA.
Major Duties
As a Meteorologist, you will perform the following duties: As a National Aviation Meteorologist (NAM), prepare and issue forecasts and briefings for aviation interests across all the National Airspace System (NAS). Forecasts include conditions that affect aviation traffic caused by hazardous weather conditions such as thunderstorms, winter storms, icing, turbulence, tropical cyclones, strong winds and low flight conditions. Serve as subject matter expert for national level aviation decision makers on weather and environmental issues affecting aviation traffic. Use knowledge of aviation impact variables, meteorology, forecast techniques and information systems to explain, advocate and negotiate with relevant stake holders to ensure a safe and efficient NAS. Lead programs, projects, and/or research activities tasked with improving office operations, procedures, and/or service delivery. Evaluate the technical and scientific adequacy of relevant operational products and services through verification efforts targeted to improve products and services.
