The Lincoln-Lancaster County Health Department’s Water Quality Section is seeking an individual to work in the Recycling, Composting, and Salvaging (RCS) and National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPES) Programs. This individual should be determined, meticulous, have strong customer service skills, and team oriented with a focus on protecting public health and the environment.
Primary duties will include conducting RCS operation inspections, NPDES industrial and municipal facility inspections, investigating illegal salvaging operations, and illicit discharge complaints. This position may assist with conducting water well inspections, work at Lincoln’s Hazardous Waste Center, or other relevant duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications/Necessary Special Requirements
Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with major coursework in environmental science, environmental health, environmental engineering, or biological, chemical or physical sciences; plus two years of experience in progressively responsible environmental science work; or any equivalent combination of training and experience that provides the desirable knowledge, abilities and skills.
May be required to hold a registration/certification specifically applicable to the area of work:
Outdoor/Indoor Air Quality, Waste Management, or Water Quality: Registered Environmental Health Specialist (NEHA, State); Professional Geologist (State); Certified Hazardous Materials Manager; Certified Industrial Hygienist (ABIH); or equivalent.
Food Safety: Registered Environmental Health Specialist (NEHA, State); or equivalent.
NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
Possession of a valid driver’s license when operating a vehicle may be necessary to the satisfactory performance of assigned duties for some positions within this classification.
Hours FULL TIME; M – F; 8AM – 4:30PM. Some evenings and weekends may be required.
