Job Summary:
We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Staff Systems Engineer to join our team within the Test Engineering department, primarily focusing on the qualification of complex defense systems. This role is for a Subject Matter Expert (SME) who will lead the planning, execution, and analysis of qualification and acceptance testing to ensure our products meet stringent customer and regulatory requirements. The ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of the product lifecycle and a proven track record of successful program execution in a fast-paced, high-stakes environment.
Key Responsibilities:
Lead the development and implementation of comprehensive qualification plans, procedures, and reports in accordance with military and industry standards (e.g., MIL-STD-810 & DO-160)
Serves as the primary technical interface for all qualification events, collaborating with design engineers, mechanical engineers, systems engineers, quality assurance, program manager, and project engineering manager to define test requirements and ensure product readiness
Analyze test data, process Test Failure and Resolution Reports (TFRRs) to completion, and recommend corrective actions
Interpret customer specifications and translate them into actionable test requirements
Develop qualification schedules and coordinate/perform testing
Assist with the definition of functional tests required to verify equipment operation during environmental tests
Set up and operate environmental test chambers, vibration tables, and data acquisition systems
Coordinate with subcontract testing lab(s) (quotes, POs, scheduling testing, testing, reports, etc.)
Support design verification, qualification, and reliability testing programs
Ensure test equipment is properly calibrated and maintained
Interface with external customers for milestone reviews, test planning, and test execution phases
Contribute to the continuous improvement of testing processes and procedures
Author Basis of Estimates (BOEs) for qualification testing for RFIs and RFP responses
Required Qualifications:
ABET-accredited bachelor’s degree in engineering
Minimum 10 years of engineering experience with a minimum 5 years performing environmental testing per MIL-STD-810 or DO-160
Understanding the hardware development lifecycle, reliability, and compliance testing
Relevant experience in hardware validation and verification testing
Hands-on experience with environmental test equipment (climatic chambers, shock/vibration systems, etc.)
Proficient in data acquisition, analysis tools, and technical report writing
Excellent problem-solving, organizational, and communication skills
Ability to work both independently and as part of a cross-functional team
Attention to Detail: High level of precision in test execution, data analysis, and reporting
Preferred Qualifications:
Extensive experience with DO-160
Experience with MIL-STD-461, MIL-STD-704, or MIL-STD-1275 standards and testing
Active U.S. Security Clearance or ability to obtain one
Experience supporting government contracts or working in a defense/aerospace environment
Experience with enterprise-level tools to aid in program management, such as but not limited to DOORS, JIRA, Risk/Opportunity tools, MS Project, Product LifeCycle Management (PLM)
Work Environment:
Primarily onsite in a laboratory or test facility environment
Occasional travel required to subcontract testing labs in Dallas or Plano
Occasional travel may be required for off-site testing or customer support
