Role Summary
Rowan Digital Infrastructure is looking for an Environmental Permitting Lead to lead and manage environmental due diligence and permitting for data center developments within North America.
The successful candidate will have technical expertise on relevant environmental regulations, and proven communication, organization, and program management skills required for the position.
Travel: Ability to travel up to 30% to project sites
Location: Denver, CO (hybrid in-office role)
Compensation: $150k - $185k (offers bonus)
Essential Responsibilities
Manage environmental due diligence across development efforts including Phase I Environmental Site Assessments, noise studies, air permitting, protected species, wetlands, and cultural evaluations. Scope, review findings, and provide clear direction to consultants and internal teams on environmental conditions and permitting needs
Lead environmental permitting and regulatory compliance efforts for site selection, including Section 404, Section 106 consultation, synthetic minor or Title V air permits, and environmental impact studies. Understand, communicate, and align these approvals with Rowan development timeframes
Evaluate different data center designs for environmental impacts for turn-key projects (e.g., noise impacts, air permitting implications, and fuel management)
Develop, summarize, and clearly communicate environmental obligations across multiple wide-ranging internal and external teams, including design, construction, and operations teams
Provide SME expertise on environmental issues, and convey those findings to Customers, where needed
Represent the project in public meetings/scoping and develop proactive/reactive communication for projects regarding environmental topics
Represent Rowan in engagements with regulators or policy stakeholders related environmental topics
Education, Skills, and Experience
Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, engineering, planning, or other related field
7+ years of experience in environmental due diligence and environmental permitting efforts, ideally pre-breakground permitting
Experience with Section 404 permitting, air permitting and noise studies
Experience managing multiple projects concurrently in a fast-paced environment
Ability to effectively coordinate with internal and external stakeholders in a highly cross-functional environment
Excellent communication and collaboration skills
