POSITION OVERVIEW
Environmental Nature Intern for Hawthorne Hill Nature Center. This position is under the direct supervision of the Nature Center Supervisor. The Environmental Education intern is a 12 week; 30 hours per week position responsible for assisting the Nature Center Program Coordinator and Naturalist staff in science, conservation, environment, and natural eco-systems.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Work with Nature Center Program Coordinator and Naturalist staff to gain experience in the following program areas: family and youth programming, special events and projects.
- Staff the Nature Center reception desk: greet visitors, answer questions and phone calls, register program participants in park programs, and provide general information on park district activities and facilities.
- Assist with Naturalist staff with outdoor restorative projects and interpretive programs and exhibits at the Nature Center.
- Work with multiple departments within the department to gain experience in overall organization operations.
- Prepare, maintain, and submit reports regarding programs and facilities.
- Follow district and departmental safety, personnel, and administrative policies, procedures and ordinances.

- General knowledge of Windows-based software.
- Ability to work independently in day-to-day operations with general supervision from supervisor.

Education:
Be enrolled in a four-year degree program in natural resources, environmental education, interpretation, parks and recreation, conservation, sustainability studies, or related field.
