Four Seasons Hotel Istanbul at the Bosphorus is looking for an experienced and strategic Director of Quality, Health, Safety & Environment (QHSE) to lead and strengthen our compliance, sustainability, and operational excellence initiatives.
In this leadership role, you will be responsible for developing, implementing, and continuously improving the hotel’s Quality, Food Safety, Occupational Health & Safety, and Environmental management systems. You will work closely with department leaders to ensure full compliance with international standards, legal regulations, and Four Seasons policies while driving a culture of safety, sustainability, and operational discipline across the property.
What you will do:
- Lead the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of Quality, Health, Safety, Environmental, and Food Safety management systems in alignment with international standards and regulatory requirements.
- Ensure compliance with local legislation and international standards including ISO 22000, ISO 45001, ISO 46001, GSTC, EHC (Environmental Health Consultancy), and corporate sustainability programs.
- Oversee internal and external audits related to Quality, Food Safety, Occupational Health & Safety, and Sustainability, ensuring corrective and preventive actions are effectively implemented.
- Chair and facilitate ISO 22000 and Lead With Care (LWC) meetings, ensuring departmental accountability and follow-up of action plans.
- Lead sustainability initiatives through the Green Team, promoting environmental responsibility, resource efficiency, and waste reduction strategies aligned with corporate ESG objectives.
- Provide leadership and guidance to department heads to ensure operational compliance with food safety, hygiene, occupational health & safety, and environmental standards.
- Develop and maintain operational documentation including Policies & Procedures (P&P), Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and compliance records in accordance with international hospitality standards.
- Plan and deliver training programs related to Food Safety, Lead With Care, EHC, ISO 22000, and sustainability requirements to ensure staff awareness and compliance.
- Conduct regular internal audits and risk assessments across the property to identify operational risks and drive continuous improvement.
- Manage incident and accident investigations, identify root causes, and implement preventive action plans to strengthen workplace safety.
- Oversee food safety management across all food production and service areas including kitchens, stewarding, banquet operations, staff restaurants, and guest dining outlets.
- Coordinate Occupational Health & Safety (OHS) programs including management of external OHS consultants and regulatory compliance monitoring.
- Manage water safety and hygiene monitoring programs including laboratory testing, ATP verification, and documentation control.
- Lead environmental monitoring and sustainability reporting including waste management, food waste reduction, water efficiency, and energy-related initiatives.
- Coordinate sustainability and responsible hospitality programs such as Four Seasons for Good and Forbes Responsible Hospitality Verification.
- Manage food waste monitoring systems such as KITRO, analyze operational waste data, and implement action plans to improve sustainability performance.
- Coordinate EHC programs and digital compliance platforms to ensure operational monitoring across the property.
- Plan and coordinate certification and surveillance audits including ISO 22000 and ISO 46001 management systems.
- Oversee calibration, laboratory testing, and compliance monitoring processes in collaboration with Engineering, Purchasing, and Finance departments.
- Prepare executive-level reports on QHSE performance, risk management, and sustainability progress for senior leadership.
What you bring:
- Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Safety, Occupational Health & Safety, Food Safety, Environmental Engineering, or a related field.
- Proven experience in Quality, Health & Safety, Environmental, or Food Safety management, preferably within the hospitality or tourism industry.
- Strong knowledge of international standards including ISO 22000, ISO 45001, ISO 46001, and sustainability frameworks such as GSTC.
- Solid understanding of environmental regulations, occupational health & safety practices, and food safety management systems.
- Strong analytical, risk assessment, and problem-solving capabilities.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to influence and guide cross-functional teams.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail in compliance and documentation processes.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and digital compliance or audit platforms.
- Ability to lead audits, training programs, and sustainability initiatives across a complex operational environment.
- A proactive, structured, and solution-oriented leadership style with a strong commitment to operational excellence and continuous improvement.
