About The Opportunity
The Senior Environmental Technical Officer supports Council’s Waste & Recycling branch by coordinating environmental compliance and monitoring programs. The role leads groundwater, surface water, leachate and asbestos monitoring, conducts sampling, analyses environmental data, and provides strategic advice to ensure regulatory compliance. It also develops auditing programs, supports environmental approvals, investigates incidents and complaints, and maintains strong relationships with regulators, industry and the community. The role requires strong skills in risk management, proactive compliance, technical communication and stakeholder engagement.
About You
To be successful in this role, you will need to demonstrate the following key selection criteria:
Mandatory
- Degree qualifications in Environmental Science or equivalent
- Demonstrated knowledge and experience in environmental regulatory management
- Strong understanding of Environmental Regulation and Waste Reduction and Recycling legislation
- Experience in identifying problems, analysing technical information, and developing solutions
- Ability to communicate with influence across diverse stakeholders (community, industry, internal teams)
- High‑level written communication skills, including preparation of complex and sensitive material
- Demonstrated investigative skills, including evidence collection and maintaining chain of custody
- Current Class C Driver Licence
Desired
- Experience within the Waste Services industry
