Description of Position
This role manages, maintains, and expands projects and programs for the Department of Culinary Experience. This role oversees engagement, outreach, administration, data tracking, and reporting to advance the department’s operational and administrative sustainability goals. The manager collaborates widely across campus and with community partners to promote environmentally responsible practices and will support the ongoing operations of the Eatery and the launch department’s new sustainable café opening in August.
Key Responsibilities
Administrative & Operational Support
- Serve as primary support for the Executive Director and Director on departmental sustainability initiatives.
- Manage communication among staff, students, external partners, and cross-departmental collaborators (including Facilities, The Eatery leadership, academic programs, and community partners).
- Convene stakeholders, facilitate meetings, and maintain partnerships with local organizations, farms, and sustainability networks.
- Maintain organized grant records and provide sustainability-related grant management to ensure alignment with institutional procedures and audit requirements.
- Assist with marketing and promotion of sustainable culinary services, including hands-on support at outreach events and with the department’s mobile food cart, The Eatery, and new cafe opening in August 2026.
- Perform related duties as assigned to support departmental needs.
Sustainability Initiatives & Program Management- Lead and support initiatives related to waste reduction, recycling, composting, food recovery, source reduction, and sustainable procurement.
- Manage the LeanPath platform, including daily data review, staff training, system updates, corrective action planning, and analysis/reporting of food-waste data.
- Track and report sustainability metrics such as food waste reduction, recycling totals, composting outcomes, emissions-related indicators, and other institutional sustainability measures.
- Develop, implement, and evaluate sustainable dining programs and environmentally aligned procurement practices, including partnerships with local and sustainable producers.
- Promote environmental awareness through the campus Sustainability Club, training, creation of SOPs, development of educational materials, community engagement, and social-media-supported communications.
- Support campuswide sustainability reporting and contribute to institutional metrics that track progress toward sustainability goals.
- Support the startup, launch, and continued operation of the new sustainable café, including planning, operational setup, stakeholder coordination, and integration of sustainability practices into café workflow.
- Support long-term planning to scale and refine sustainability programs, including those launched through the Eatery, mobile food cart, and new café.
Project Development, Education & Outreach- Manage and actively participate in constructing and maintaining the department’s on-site compost system and culinary garden.
- Plan and support sustainability-focused presentations, guest speaker events, and other educational or community engagement activities.
- Create a replicable sustainability toolkit for other community colleges and institutions seeking to advance their sustainability initiatives and programs.
- Use the toolkit as a resource for external outreach, including speaking events, workshops, and presentations to promote departmental sustainability innovations.
Minimum Expectations & Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree preferred in a related field.
- At least four years of general office, clerical, or bookkeeping experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Interest and/or experience in food service operations.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
- Experience with email marketing software (e.g., Constant Contact).
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to multitask.
- Availability to work evenings, weekends and holidays.
