Since 1981, the Golden Gate National Parks Conservancy (Parks Conservancy) has served as the nonprofit partner of the National Park Service, collaborating with the Presidio Trust, partners, donors, and the community to support the Golden Gate National Recreation Area (GGNRA). The GGNRA stretches across three Bay Area counties north and south of the Golden Gate Bridge and includes iconic places such as Muir Woods National Monument, Fort Point National Historic Site, Alcatraz Island, Crissy Field, Mori Point, Lands End, and the Presidio of San Francisco.

Department Description:
The Interpretive Centers and Sales Department is responsible for developing and operating visitor centers throughout the Golden Gate National Parks, providing visitor information, orientation, and other direct services. Conservancy Interpretive Centers provide educational, functional, and proprietary park merchandise along with changing park exhibits. The department develops park books, maps, and interpretive and branded products, manages warehousing and distribution, operates the Muir Woods Fee Collection program, and develops and operates the Conservancy’s online sales and wholesale programs. Interpretive Centers include Alcatraz Park Stores, Muir Woods Visitor Center, Lands End Lookout, Warming Hut, Fort Point Park Store, Golden Gate Bridge Welcome Center, and Presidio Visitor Center.
Position Overview:
This is a non-exempt, non-benefitted part-time (16 hours/week) Sales Associate I position. The work location is at the Presidio Visitor Center, San Francisco.
Essential Functions & Responsibilities:
Retail Sales
- Sell interpretive and educational merchandise to help the Conservancy meet daily sales goals.
- Help with unpacking, tagging, and placing of newly arrived merchandise.
- Help maintain a clean and organized store and storage spaces.
- Maintain positive and respectful relationships with all partners including the National Park Service and Parks Conservancy colleagues.
Visitor Information and Orientation
- Inform visitors about GGNRA, providing knowledge about trails and other park information, and area history and nature.
- Promote and sell memberships, explaining benefits and value of joining the Parks Conservancy.
- Provide information to visitors about the scope of the Parks Conservancy’s, programs, projects, volunteer opportunities, and other ways for engagement.
Training
- Complete all required training to provide the best service for visitors including safety, de-escalation and bystander intervention skills, park trails, and other information.
- Participate in ongoing training in sales skills, product knowledge, inventory, and Conservancy programs and policies.
Reports To: Retail Manager, Assistant Manager
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Excellent Sales ability, and accurate cash handling experience.
- Strong written and communication skills.
- Sales, retail, museum, park ranger, hospitality, or related experience.
- Education and Experience:
- High school diploma or GED equivalent required.
- 2+ years comparable experience preferred.
Physical Requirements and Work Environments:
- Work is performed in a retail, stockroom, and office setting.
- Work is primarily performed standing or walking.
- Work requires squatting, kneeling, and climbing (short step ladder).
- Frequently lifts, carries, and positions objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
