Position Summary
Affordable Solar is seeking an experienced Solar Construction Manager to lead the execution of distributed generation solar projects from completed engineering through construction and project closeout. This role is responsible for translating project designs into real-world execution by coordinating labor strategy, subcontractors, procurement, and field construction.
The Solar Construction Manager will primarily deliver a portfolio of distributed generation solar projects (typically around 5 MWdc) while also supporting execution readiness across a broader portfolio of community solar projects. Most projects are ground-mounted installations spanning approximately 2–40 acres.

Key Responsibilities
- Lead execution of distributed generation solar projects from engineering handoff through construction completion
- Review engineering drawings, scopes of work, schedules, and site constraints for constructability and execution readiness
- Translate engineering plans into construction strategies including sequencing, labor planning, procurement, and logistics
- Coordinate subcontractors, specialty trades, and installation teams during project mobilization and construction
- Oversee active construction to ensure work meets design specifications, schedule, safety, and quality standards
- Identify and resolve field issues including sequencing conflicts, equipment delays, site constraints, and subcontractor performance challenges
- Conduct regular site visits and serve as Affordable Solar’s field representative during construction
- Support commissioning, punch list completion, and project closeout
- Coordinate procurement of major equipment, balance-of-system components, and construction services
- Track equipment lead times and delivery schedules to maintain project timelines
- Maintain visibility across the company’s portfolio of distributed generation and community solar projects
- Coordinate project handoffs between development, engineering, and construction teams
- Participate in construction meetings, OAC calls, and project status reviews
- Help improve construction readiness, procurement planning, subcontractor sourcing, and field reporting processes
QualificationsQualifications
- 10+ years of experience in solar construction, electrical construction, civil construction, EPC, or infrastructure project delivery
- Experience taking projects from engineering or pre-construction into field execution and completion
- Strong knowledge of solar construction practices including sequencing, labor planning, subcontractor coordination, and equipment logistics
- Experience sourcing and managing subcontractors, labor crews, and vendors
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, construction plans, schedules, and scopes of work
- Experience managing multiple concurrent projects
- Strong problem-solving and communication skills
- Familiarity with distributed generation solar projects; community solar experience preferred
- Experience working with utilities, interconnection processes, and local construction stakeholders is a plus
- Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel regularly to project sites across New Mexico
- Degree in construction management, engineering, or related field is helpful but not required
