About This Role:
The Mechanical Receiving & Shipping Quality Inspector is a critical checkpoint in the lifecycle of our Modular Data Center (Spark) and Power Distribution Center (PDC) product lines. This individual is responsible for ensuring that all incoming structural and mechanical components meet precise engineering specifications and that every finished unit is structurally sound and defect-free before it leaves the facility. Operating with a high degree of technical accuracy, this role prevents non-conforming materials from entering production and ensures our global customers receive a world-class, ruggedized product.
What You’ll Be Working On:
Inbound Technical Inspection: Perform detailed mechanical inspections on incoming raw materials and sub-assemblies, including structural steel, HVAC units, custom enclosures, and heavy-duty hardware, ensuring they match PO requirements and engineering drawings.
Outbound Shipment Validation: Execute final inspections on finished Mobile Data Centers and PDCs, verifying structural integrity, paint/coating quality, weatherproofing, and ensuring all shipping bracing and loose-ship items are present.
Documentation & Traceability: Maintain meticulous digital records of all inspections, including material certifications (MTRs), dimensional reports, and shipping checklists to ensure 100% traceability for every unit built.
Non-Conformance Management: Identify, document, and "red tag" non-conforming mechanical parts. Assist the Quality Lead in root cause investigations and follow up on Corrective Action Reports (CARs) with vendors.
Precision Measurement: Utilize a variety of mechanical tools—including calipers, micrometers, weld gauges, and ultrasonic thickness testers—to verify tolerances on critical "Spark" components.
Cross-Functional Feedback: Partner with the Production and Shipping/Receiving teams to communicate quality trends, helping to refine loading procedures and material handling to prevent transit damage.
Standards Compliance: Ensure all mechanical inspections align with ISO 9001 standards and specific structural requirements for modular building codes.
Safety & Logistics: Monitor the safe handling of oversized mechanical components during the offloading and loading process to prevent structural fatigue or cosmetic damage.
What You’ll Bring to the Team:
Education: High School Diploma or GED required; Technical certificate or Associate’s degree in Mechanical Technology, Welding, or Quality Inspection preferred.
Experience: 3+ years of experience in mechanical inspection within a heavy industrial, aerospace, or modular construction environment.
Technical Expertise: Advanced ability to read and interpret complex mechanical blueprints, structural drawings, and 3D CAD models.
Tool Proficiency: Hands-on experience with precision manual measuring instruments and a solid understanding of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).
System Knowledge: Basic proficiency with ERP systems (for logging receipts/dispositions) and digital Quality Management software.
Operational Attributes: Physical ability to navigate large-scale data center units, including climbing ladders and inspecting chassis undercarriages.
Safety and Compliance: This position is designated a safety-sensitive position and is located in a safety-sensitive facility. Drug and alcohol program participation is required.
Bonus Points:
CWI (Certified Welding Inspector) or ASQ Mechanical Inspector certification.
Direct experience with NEMA enclosure standards or HVAC system mechanical integration.
Experience operating heavy equipment (forklifts/cranes) to assist in the movement and positioning of units for inspection.
Previous experience in a "Shipping/Receiving" role specifically for heavy industrial electrical equipment.
Benefits:
