GZA GeoEnvironmental of New York (GZA) is currently seeking an Entry Level Environmental Engineer/Geologist/Scientist in our New York City and/or Melville NY office. The successful candidate must have a solid educational background and be self-motivated with a professional attitude. They will join our team of engineers/geologists/scientists that work on a variety of projects including site investigation, environmental compliance, evaluation of remedial alternatives, design, and implementation of remedial systems and/or construction management. The successful candidate will work under the supervision of project managers and/or principals. Our close-knit culture here at GZA will allow you to grow professionally. Between field work projects, you will work in a professional office setting, preparing detailed and accurate field documentation, data analysis, and reporting.
Typical Duties May Include:
- Perform outdoor, all-season field tasks such as drilling, test pits, soil/groundwater/soil vapor sampling, remedial action monitoring, documentation, and reporting, etc.
- Preparation for fieldwork, including preparing health and safety plans, field equipment, reviewing relevant background information about the project and reviewing the budget/schedule with the Project Manager.
- Data gathering, organization, and interpretation of subsurface conditions and analytical data.
- Writing field reports, logs, inspection/engineering reports, and technical specifications.
- Writing drafts of project reports, tables, and figures.
- Preparing all phases of permitting application packages.
- Preparing construction plans, specifications and construction bid packages.
- Performing cost/quantity estimates and project scheduling.
- Communicating effectively and efficiently with contractors, clients, and team members
- Adherence to applicable safety policies from GZA and Client.
- Conduct field and office QA/QC responsibilities.

Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Geology, Environmental Science, or related field is required. Master’s degree preferred. EIT/GIT certification a plus.
- 1+ year of related environmental experience in the fields of site investigation, remediation, environmental compliance, is preferred
- Knowledge of federal, state, and local environmental regulations is a plus
- Strong attention to detail with excellent analytical and judgment capabilities
- Ability to follow direction, and work independently or in a team setting
- Effective communication skills, problem solving, and organizational skills
- Working knowledge of computers and Microsoft Office suite, AutoCAD, or ArcGIS a plus
- 40-hour OSHA HAZWOPER certification, including 8-hour annual refresher certificates, is a plus
- 10-Hour NYC General Construction Safety certification, is a plus
- Availability to work Monday through Friday and some evenings and weekends
- Ability to travel locally and regionally
- A valid driver’s license in good standing
The base salary for this position may range between $77,000 and $100,000. This position is eligible for “straight time” overtime pay. The actual base salary and total compensation will depend on many factors, including bonus eligibility, candidate experience, education, professional licensure, and other qualifications.
