DescriptionGENERAL PURPOSE
Under the supervision of the Membership and Events Manager, the Birthday Party Attendant plays a spirited role in the Special Events department by delivering a fun, memorable birthday party experience through positive, energetic interaction with all event guests and clients while advancing the mission and vision of Fresno’s Chaffee Zoo Corporation’s (FCZC) along with FCZC’s strategic goals. This is a seasonal position lasting from April 2026 - October 2026
We are pleased to offer this part time position an Employee Assistance Program, 401K, Paid CA Sick Time. The pay range for this position is $17.78 - $18.66 per hour. Offers will be based on the successful candidate’s experience.
ESSENTIAL ACCOUNTABILITIES
• Ensures that the birthday party area is set up and ready for guests’ arrival, presenting a clean, organized first impression by reading and executing details on the event memo.
• Monitors event progression, tracks guest experience, responds to complaints or issues according to procedures and immediately reports any security, medical, or operational concerns to management or the appropriate department to be handled immediately
• Communicates and works cooperatively with management and fellow employees before, during and after an event.
• Organizes and prioritizes multiple tasks and projects to meet deadlines, proactively identifies challenges and implements solutions to ensure a smooth and efficient process
• Executes assigned tasks according to established timelines and procedures, verifies accuracy of materials and setup and completes tasks efficiently to ensure smooth event operations
• Follows instruction and completes assigned tasks with minimal oversight.
• Occasionally processes client payments, including charges for additional add-ons or upgrades, maintains accurate records and communicates all extra charges to the Event Sales Representative
• Greets birthday child and family/guardians to gather special requests, answer questions and provide a personal welcome to the Zoo.
• Interacts with all guests throughout the course of the birthday party to generate enthusiasm and facilitate smooth progression of party events.
• Coordinates with in-house caterers or outside catering services/food vendors to set up food and beverages for party guests. Distributes food, beverages, and desserts to party guests when requested.
• Performs all clean-up tasks at the end of the party and ensures the party area is ready for the next event.
• Assists with all other Zoo events as needed (public events, group events, development events, community events, etc.)
• Assists coordinators and managers with vendor logistics and supervision.
• Assists with installation of seasonal exhibitions on-site and off-site as needed
• Adheres to safety procedures in all aspects of work, including the use of Zoo equipment. Uses good judgment and proper lifting techniques (team lift, etc.) while lifting or moving heavy items. Participates in safety training as assigned.
• Maintains Zoo equipment to ensure safety, security, and proper operation. Maintains order in storage areas and returns equipment to its proper place.
• Safely operate a vehicle for business purposes including but not limited to going to and from FCZC’s facilities and offsite.
• Perform additional responsibilities as assigned to support team and organizational goals.
QualificationsEDUCATION AND JOB QUALIFICATIONS
• High school diploma or GED required.
• Minimum one (1) year of customer service or event experience required.
• Strong verbal English language communication skills required.
• California driver's license, valid vehicle insurance, enrolled in the CA Employer Pull Notice program and successful completion of the FCZ Drivers Training Program required.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

• This position requires the employee to stand and walk continuously throughout the shift.
• The employee is regularly required to bend, stoop, crouch, kneel, reach, or twist and to perform other repetitive movements throughout the shift.
• The employee is regularly required to lift, push, pull, or carry up to 50 pounds, and occasionally up to 75 pounds regularly throughout the shift
• This position requires frequent work at elevated heights, including the use of ladders or other approved equipment, in accordance with established safety protocols.
• This position requires frequent use of radios for communication.
• Visual acuity to read printed instructions and safety information.
• Receive detailed information through oral communication (in person and via telephone or radio), at normal speaking levels with or without correction.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
• This position functions both indoors and outdoors, with exposure to heat, cold, inclement weather, Zoo environments and external events.
• The employee may be exposed to environmental substances such as dust/dirt from Zoo grounds.
• The position works in close proximity to Zoo animals.
• Regular local travel and occasional out-of-town travel may be required.
• Ability to work overtime, evenings, weekdays, weekends, and holidays.
