This position is located in Petrified Forest National Park, in the Protection Division.
Major Duties
This position is a Supervisory Park Ranger with primary duties and responsibilities in both the performance and supervision of work in the Visitor and Resource Protection program within Petrified Forest National Park. The primary purpose of this position is to perform and to supervise employees in the investigation, apprehension, and transport of persons suspected and/or convicted of violation of criminal laws of the United States of America. You will perform all aspects of supervision for GL-0025-09 permanent law enforcement rangers and may also supervise temporary law enforcement employees and/or non-commissioned staff. In an area of proprietary jurisdiction, you are responsible for leading and planning daily operations and directing the completion of collateral duties. You will set work goals and ensure all employees receive required training in a timely manner, identify operational requirements and make recommendations to your supervisor, and schedule patrols to maximize visitor contact with special consideration to problem areas. You will supervise and lead law enforcement, all hazard, emergency medical, and search and rescue operations as well as provide emergency medical services to park visitors and residents. Location: Holbrook, the nearest community, is 25 miles from the park. The park provides carpools for 7:00 and 8:00 work start times. Holbrook averages 272 sunny days per year, with reasonable temperatures; average high in the warmest month of July is 95 and coldest average is 21 in December and January. Holbrook has a movie theatre, dog parks, softball leagues, public shooting range, nine-hole golf course, a disc golf course, racquetball courts, a splash pad, a seasonal swimming pool, tennis courts, batting cage, mini golf course, farmers market, county fair, rodeos, historic museum, library, a variety of restaurants, and fitness centers. Home prices are very reasonable. Kindergarten through high school is available, as well as a community college. Within an hour and a half of Holbrook are Flagstaff, AZ; Gallup, NM; and Show Low, AZ. Phoenix is three hours from Holbrook. **Housing may be available**
