The Role
Thornton Tomasetti is seeking a passionate team player to join our Sustainability & Resilience team in London as an intern to assist with building analytics projects – from whole‑building energy modelling to embodied carbon life‑cycle assessment for projects across the UK and internationally. You will work closely with a multidisciplinary team of engineers and architects, supporting a variety of active sustainability‑focused projects.
This is a full‑time internship for three months during the summer, based in our London office.
Responsibilities
While project work can vary from day to day, typical tasks may include:
Developing building geometry/models to assess daylight, glare, energy, comfort
Energy and building regulations research
Analysis and calculations to support net‑zero studies and/or Passive House studies
Reviewing architectural and structural systems, and liaising with MEP teams where these relate to sustainability and resilience strategies
Reviewing existing project drawings and related documents for use in LCA and analytics tools
Preparing presentations and visualisations (PowerPoint or similar)
Collaborating and coordinating with other TT teams (e.g. Sustainability, Structures, Façades)
Providing general assistance with project management and documentation
Requirements
Currently studying for an undergraduate or postgraduate degree in engineering (civil, structural, mechanical, environmental) or architecture – or a closely related built‑environment / sustainability discipline
Strong academic record and genuine interest in low‑carbon design, whole‑life carbon and building performance
Comfortable with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and able to work with drawings and models
Familiarity with CAD/BIM tools (e.g. AutoCAD, Revit, Rhino) is an advantage
Any experience with the following is a plus, but not essential:
One Click LCA or other LCA tools
Energy or daylight modelling tools (e.g. IESVE, EnergyPlus, Grasshopper / Ladybug tools)
Bluebeam, InDesign or other graphics/layout software
UK and international sustainability frameworks (e.g. LETI, RIBA 2030, BREEAM, LEED, Passive House, London Plan Whole Life‑Cycle Carbon / Circular Economy guidance)
If you are detail‑oriented, collaborative, and interested in helping deliver low‑carbon, climate‑resilient projects in the UK and beyond, we would be delighted to receive your application.
